The premium brand FangChengBao, launched last year by BYD, published the first photos of the production version of the junior SUV called Leopard 3 (in China — Bao 3), it is equipped with a dual-motor electric power plant and will hit the market before the end of this year.
FangChengBao translated from Latinized Chinese into Russian means “leopard formula” or “leopard equation”; in the BYD hierarchy, the new brand is positioned between the luxury brand Yangwang and the premium brand Denza. The FangChengBao brand was launched as a global brand, but is currently represented only in China. FangChengBao will produce only electric and plug-in hybrid cars, its model line is divided into two branches — Leopard/Bao (SUVs, crossovers and pickups) and Super (sports cars).

The debut model of the FangChengBao brand was the mid-size framed plug-in hybrid SUV Leopard 5, which entered the Chinese market in November last year. In the first four months of 2024, FangChengBao Leopard 5, according to CAAM, sold 13,173 units in China, which is not bad considering the high prices: Leopard 5 costs from 289,800 to 352,800 yuan (from 3.49 million to 4. 25 million rubles translated at the current exchange rate).

Other new FangChengBao products have not yet entered the market, and last spring three of them were announced at the Beijing Auto Show: the two-seater Super 9 roadster, the compact SUV Leopard 3 and the large SUV Leopard 8. Leopard 3 was presented in Beijing as a concept, which was generously hung off-road ammunition, and yesterday photographs of production versions of Leopard 3 surfaced in the electronic database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry, after which BYD decided to publish more elegant official photographs.

From the dossier of the Chinese Ministry of Industry, we learned that the overall length of the Leopard 3 is 4605 mm, width — 1900 mm, height — 1720 mm, wheelbase — 2745 mm, approach angle — 25 degrees, departure angle — 28 degrees. Curb weight — 2150 kg. The standard tire size is 235/60 R 18 or 245/50 R 19. For Leopard 3, only an electric dual-motor power plant is declared: the power of the front electric motor is 110 kW (150 hp), the rear one is 200 kW (272 hp). ). The battery capacity and range on one charge have not yet been disclosed. The crossover accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 201 km/h.

By the way, whether to consider the Leopard 3 an SUV or a crossover is a matter of taste: when it comes to electric vehicles, there is no clear criterion that would allow one to distinguish an SUV from a crossover (on “hydrocarbon” models, many consider the presence of a downshift in the transfer case to be such a criterion: if it is there and is combined with good geometric cross-country ability, then we have an SUV in front of us). The green car in the photos could easily be mistaken for an SUV: it has the most massive bumpers, an imitation bullbar on the front, “toothy” tires, an expedition rack on the roof and a full-size spare tire on the trunk door.

The black and white cars in the photos are conditionally urban and off-road versions of the Leopard 3, they have a more civilized decor, asphalt tires, less bold-looking bumpers, regular roof rails and a charging case instead of a spare tire on the trunk door. The interior of the Leopard 3 has not yet been declassified. It is expected that the minimum price of the Leopard 3 in China will be around 220,000 yuan (2.65 million rubles).
The FangChengBao brand is not officially represented in Russia, but the Leopard 5 hybrid SUV is available from gray dealers.
