Restyled Mitsubishi Pajero Sport: the new diesel is not for everyone

The modernized SUV has conquered another market. Moreover, there the frameman retained the 4N15 turbodiesel, whereas in his production homeland he was assigned a different engine.

The frame all-terrain vehicle Mitsubishi Pajero Sport of the current generation has been in service since 2015. However, instead of a completely new model, the Japanese brand decided to bring to the market once again a modernized SUV (the previous large-scale restyling was carried out in 2019). The first to receive the refreshed SUV were residents of Thailand, where the main production site is located. Now this model is available in the Philippines. By the way, in this country the SUV is called Mitsubishi Montero Sport.

In terms of design, the Philippine version repeated the Thai one. The all-terrain vehicle received a new radiator grille — with large honeycombs, plus “toothed” dies appeared in the upper part instead of horizontal stripes. The bumpers were also retouched, and the model received different 18-inch wheels. In addition, the top version of the GT has been renamed in the Philippines: from now on it is the Black Series with extended black decor.

In the cabin there is a three-spoke steering wheel from the new generation Mitsubishi L200/Triton pickup truck; expensive trim levels also come with a new virtual instrument panel. Rich options include dual-zone climate control, a sunroof, all-round cameras, adaptive cruise control, auto braking systems, lane marking monitoring, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic warning.

If in Thailand the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, after restyling, switched to the 4N16 2.4 turbodiesel (184 hp) from the latest L200 truck, then the updated Montero Sport is available with the previous 4N15 diesel engine of the same volume (181 hp). But the Philippine SUV retained the classic eight-speed automatic transmission, while the Thai version is now equipped with a 6AT. The base Montero Sport is offered with a six-speed manual. Only the most expensive SUV has all-wheel drive, all other versions are rear-wheel drive.

Price of the restyled Mitsubishi Montero Sport ranges from 1,568,000 to 2,502,000 local pesos, which is equivalent to approximately 2.3 million — 3.7 million rubles at the current exchange rate.

Later, the updated SUV should reach other countries But in Brazil, for example, you shouldn’t expect such a Pajero Sport in the near future: sales of a pre-reform SUV in a special Black version have just started there.
