According to the forecasts of Gazprombank Autoleasing experts, the share of Chinese brands in the motor transport market with mileage by the end of 2024 may increase to 25%.
Secondary market quickly filled with products manufactured in China, manufactured in 2022-2023. Equipment from other imported brands with earlier years of production is becoming increasingly problematic to operate and illiquid.
According to analysts, in the first five months of this year, sales of Chinese brands amounted to 22% of the total volume of equipment sold, which is 3 times more than in 2023. Filling levels vary by segment. In January-May 2024, the share of Chinese products reached 10% of the total volume of used passenger cars sold, 28% of all used trucks sold and 35% of all used special equipment. According to last year's results, the figures for these three segments were significantly lower: 3%, 9% and 21%, respectively.
In the category of passenger cars, the brands Haval, Geely, Chery are in great demand in the used vehicle market; in the corporate segment, premium Chinese brands are Voyah, Hongqi, as well as Exeed, Tank, Lixiang and other models.
Shacman, FAW, Howo brands are in demand among used trucks. Sitrak and Foton trucks are preferred to be purchased primarily on the primary market, but their shares in the used equipment segment are also growing.
Experts say that the advantages of buying cars from Chinese brands include the presence of official dealership centers throughout Russia, where you can get service and warranty repairs. In the event of a breakdown, car owners and lessees, as a rule, do not face the problem of a shortage of spare parts. New Chinese models come to the market fully adapted for operation in the Russian climate: the vehicles are tested on the territory of the Russian Federation, and “winter packages” are included in the configurations. What also speaks in favor of buying a used Chinese car is that these products are manufactured using technology and/or using components from the world's leading concerns.
According to experts, Chinese technology is sufficiently adapted for operation for a long period of time over 3-5 years. Moreover, in the absence of new products from other imported brands on the primary market, the Russian consumer’s choice is between a vehicle of a foreign brand with a solid mileage or a practically new “Chinese” one.
