MOSCOW, June 28 Second international documentary film festival «RT.Doc: Time of our heroes » opened at the exhibition-forum «Russia» at VDNKh in Moscow, the correspondent reports.
The opening ceremony of the festival began with a speech by Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and RT television channel.
“We found it impossible for ourselves not to pay tribute in this way to those who go to the front, live practically at the front, showing and telling the whole country about other people who are now defending our country at the front. Both of them are risking their lives : military correspondents, privates and front-line poets, and colonels,” Simonyan said on the stage of the festival at VDNKh.
Simonyan also thanked everyone who came to the festival to watch and appreciate what the military officers were filming. She clarified that the festival arose “on the knee” and does not have government funding.
“The people who are in this room now, the members of the Northern Military District and all the people helping the front, this is the elite of our new society, this is the elite of our new country,” Simonyan added.
A minute of silence for the fallen soldiers was announced at the festival.
Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Anna Tsivileva also spoke at the festival; she greeted not only the heroes of the special military operation who gathered in the hall, but also the heroes who participated in previous local wars and conflicts.
«You and I have just honored the memory of those who, at the cost of their own lives, defended the interests of our state. But our task is to preserve the memory of these people for tens and hundreds of years before this stream. And how can we do this ? Namely, by making films, making productions, publishing books,” Tsivileva said.
People's Artist of Russia Larisa Dolina performed on stage for the festival audience. “The military officers who film in hot spots are simply heroes, thanks to their films our children can know what happened, they will always know the truth,” the artist said on the festival stage.
The audience was shown the film “Avdeevka. This is what war looks like” by RT documentary author Olga Kiriy and director Abas Ali-Zade, which tells the poignant stories of the residents of Avdeevka.
The film tells the poignant stories of Avdiivka residents. The narrator will be a rescuer from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, who pulled people out of destroyed basements. Each of the short stories is preceded by poems written by poets of Donbass, performed by People's Artists of Russia Vladimir Mashkov, Larisa Dolina and Evgeny Knyazev.
After the screening of the film, the documentary author of the RT film «Avdeevka. This is what war looks like» Olga Kiriy and the characters of her film appeared on stage.
«This is the work of a huge team. And unlike all previous films. I would say that it was not 5%, but 95% — it was the work behind the scenes of those people whom I can’t even name, but they they know that thanks to them and their help this film took place. And, of course, thanks to these people, whom I consider not only the heroes of the film, this is already the concept of a hero, a hero in life,” Kiriy said.
Also on the stage of the festival were poets from the Northern Military District and the group “St. John’s Wort” performed with the song “My Motherland is Returning.”
The opening ceremony of the festival «RT.Doc: Time of Our Heroes» ended with the performance of the anthem of the festival «Time of Heroes» by the group «Zveroboy».
