Avito Auto experts analyzed the dynamics of sales of used cars in the second quarter of 2024. According to experts, in April-June of this year, sales were 20.1% more than in the first quarter of this year, and compared with the second quarter of 2023, they remained virtually unchanged. The average price of used cars in the second quarter of 2024 reached 790,000 rubles.
According to the platform, in the second quarter of 2024, VAZ (LADA) became the leader in sales of used cars among brands: its share was 22, 75% of the total volume. Toyota was in second place with a share of 6.88%, and Kia was in third place with a share of 6.57%. The fourth line is occupied by Hyundai, whose share was 6.23%, and the fifth – by Volkswagen (4.68%).
The Kia brand showed the maximum increase in sales compared to the first quarter of this year: the figure increased by 23.1%. In second place in terms of growth rates is VAZ (LADA): sales of cars of this brand increased by 22.8%. The third line went to Volkswagen (an increase of 22.4%), and the fourth place went to Hyundai (21.8%). Toyota closes the top 5: during the quarter, sales of cars of this brand increased by 15.7%.
The budget car segment remains the leader in sales in Russia, accounting for 73.78%. It also leads in growth rates for the quarter: this figure for cars costing up to 1.5 million rubles was 23.6%. This is understandable: in most regions of the country, it is budget cars that are in the most popular demand due to their affordability, but the variety of offers here is relatively small, so we do not record a year-on-year increase in sales in this segment. But in comparison with the second quarter of 2023, the leader in sales dynamics was the segment of cars costing over 3 million rubles: here sales increased by 35.8%. Based on the results of April–June 2024, the share of such cars in sales is 9.58%. It can be assumed that this is due, among other things, to the desire of many car owners to update outdated vehicles. Avito Auto experts compiled ratings of the best-selling used cars for the second quarter of 2024 in three price segments: up to 1.5 million rubles, from 1.5 to 3 million rubles and over 3 million rubles. Some models entered the top 10 in terms of sales in several price segments at once, since they are purchased both in practically new condition and with high mileage, which affects the cost of the car.
Best selling cars with mileage over 3 million rubles
The sales leader in this segment was the Toyota Camry, which received a share of 3.34%. Next come two BMW models: the share of the X5 was 2.98%, the share of the 5 Series car was 2.94%. Fourth and fifth places went to Toyota cars: Land Cruiser with 2.63% and Land Cruiser Prado with 2.27%. Also in the top 10 were the Geely Monjaro, which was the segment leader in the last quarter, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW X6, Toyota RAV4 and Lexus RX.
The leader in sales dynamics year-on-year among these models became Geely Monjaro: over the year its sales increased by 2.24 times. The leader in comparison with the first quarter was the E-class from Mercedes-Benz, sales of which increased by 29.6%.

The most popular used cars in the price segment from 1.5 to 3 million rubles
Toyota Camry also became the leader in this segment, accounting for 3.75% of sales. The Kia Sportage crossover took second place with 2.56%. The next two lines are occupied by models of another South Korean brand — Hyundai: in third position is the Creta mini-crossover with 2.44%, and in fourth is the Solaris subcompact car with 1.91%. The Toyota RAV4 closes the top five with a share of 1.87%. They are followed by the Volkswagen Tiguan, Kia Rio, Kia Optima, Nissan X-Trail and Mazda CX-5.
Sales of the South Korean small class car Kia Rio are growing most dynamically year on year: over the year the figure increased by 115%. The leader in terms of dynamics for the quarter was the Toyota Camry, whose sales increased by 20.8%.

The best-selling used cars in the price segment up to 1.5 million rubles
Among budget cars, 7 out of 10 places among the leaders were occupied by VAZ (LADA) models. In first place is Granta (4.28%), in second is Priora (3.89%), in third is 2114 Samara (2.73%). The fourth line was taken by the Ford Focus, which received 2.6%, and the fifth place was taken by the Russian Kalina with a share of 2.51%. Also in the top ten were Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio and three more VAZ (LADA) models: 2107, 4×4 (Niva) and 2110.
Compared to the second quarter of last year, the segment leader Granta demonstrates the maximum sales dynamics: growth amounted to 32.5%. Quarter by quarter, sales of the same model are growing faster than others — by 35.5%.
