MOSCOW, July 11 Uruguay national team players fought with Colombian fans after the 2024 Copa America semi-final match.
The meeting took place on Thursday night, Moscow time, in the city of Charlotte (North Carolina) and ended with a victory for the Colombians with a score of 1:0.
At the end of the match, the losing players of the Uruguay national team got into a brawl with Colombian fans. Videos appeared on social networks showing several Uruguayan players climbing into the stands and fighting with fans. The English Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez and the Spanish Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo were ahead of everyone.
Captain of the Uruguay national team Jose Maria Jimenez justified the behavior of his national team partners by protecting their families from drunken fans.
«Let me explain everything before they take us off the air because they want to prevent me from saying anything. This is a disaster. Please be careful. Our families were in the stands, there were small, newborn children. It was horror , there were no police there, and we ourselves had to protect our families. It’s the fault of two or three people who drank too much, although they don’t know how to drink at all,” ESPN quotes Jimenez as saying.
The Uruguay team will play for bronze medals with the Canadian team. The match will take place on the night of July 14 and will begin at 3:00 Moscow time.
