Avito Auto experts analyzed the dynamics of sales of crossovers and SUVs (SUVs) with mileage in the second quarter of 2024 in Russia. According to experts, in April-June of this year, sales increased by 6.6% compared to the first quarter, and by 3.2% year-on-year. The average price of such cars increased over the year by 14.3%, and during the quarter it decreased by 7.7% and amounted to 1,600,000 rubles.
According to the platform, the share of the SUV segment in total used car sales was 22.34%. The leader in terms of sales share in this segment was the VAZ (LADA) brand: it accounted for 9.33% of all sales in Russia. In second place is Hyundai, which received a share of 7.83%, and in third place is Toyota with 7.62%. Nissan ranks fourth in sales: its share is 6.77%. The top 5 brands are completed by BMW, whose share was 6.4%.
In terms of growth rates, Nissan was in first place: compared to the previous quarter, its sales in this segment increased by 15.2%. The leader in year-on-year dynamics was the VAZ (LADA) brand, which added 9.7% during this period.
SUVs from manufacturers Nissan and Hyundai were bestsellers among other models and were generally quite popular among Russian car owners in the last years of the brands' official presence on the Russian market. Now for many of these cars the ownership cycle is ending, which is about 5-7 years. At the same time, a large number of modern Chinese cars with many innovative features have appeared on the market — so the incentive for used SUV owners to replace their car becomes even greater. In addition, SUVs are traditionally popular in Russia for a combination of qualities: driving characteristics, compromise handling, interior roominess, moderate off-road qualities, etc. Therefore, sales in this segment show confident positive dynamics. The best-selling SUV in the second quarter of 2024 was 4×4 (Niva), whose share was 6.19% — this is the most budget car in the top 10. In second place is the Chevrolet Niva with 3.81%, in third place is the Toyota RAV4 with 2.73%. The fourth and fifth positions in the ranking were taken by Volkswagen Tiguan and Nissan Qashqai: their shares in sales were 2.59% and 2.45%, respectively. Also in the top 10 were Renault Duster, BMW X5, Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan X-Trail and Hyundai Creta.
The leader in growth rates for the quarter was the Nissan X-Trail, which demonstrated a sales increase of 13.3% . Year on year, the Hyundai Creta showed the most positive dynamics, whose sales grew by 12.8%.
