The JAC line has been replenished with a stylish budget crossover, which is already a little familiar to Russians

The compact SUV is presented under different names. The model is offered with no alternative aspirated 1.5.

JAC has launched a cute little crossover. The market debut of the five-door almost simultaneously took place in Mexico and the Philippines. Moreover, in the first country the compact is considered a completely new model with the name JAC 2, and for the Filipinos the SUV is offered as JAC JS2 Pro. That is, it is the Mexican representative who is being disingenuous: before us is once again the modernized JAC JS2. The original model has been in service since 2015, in some countries it is known as the Refine S2, and in Mexico the previous version was sold under the name Sei2. Well, the most curious thing is that the pre-reform cross was also familiar to Russians: once upon a time we were supplied with its electric version iEV7S.

The design is also not new. The purely petrol JAC 2/JS2 Pro inherited the appearance of the SOL E20X electric car, which debuted back in 2018 as a joint project between JAC and Volkswagen. The SOL brand then, we recall, turned into Sehol, however, this brand was later abandoned.

If we compare it with the pre-restyling “traditional” five-door JAC, the radiator grille, bumpers, headlights and taillights are different. In addition, an unpainted plastic body kit “all around” appeared. The length increased by 14 mm to 4149 mm. The height, on the contrary, has been cut by 2 mm – now 1566 mm. The width and wheelbase are the same — 1750 and 2490 mm, respectively.

In the cabin there is a new steering wheel and air deflectors. The list of equipment also includes a multimedia system with a 9-inch touchscreen, climate control, a rear view camera, four airbags and cruise control.

JAC 2 for Mexico

JAC 2/JS2 Pro is equipped with a 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol engine. On the Mexican version, the engine produces 112 hp, on the Philippine version — 103 hp. For Mexicans, the SUV is available with a five-speed manual or CVT, for Filipinos — only with a CVT. In any case, the drive is exclusively front-wheel drive.

The price of JAC 2 in Mexico starts at 299,000 pesos, which is equivalent to approximately 1.46 million rubles at the current exchange rate. In the Philippines, the JAC JS2 Pro will cost at least 875,000 local pesos, which is about 1.32 million rubles. Later, the SUV will reach other countries in Latin America and Southeast Asia, plus it may be brought to Africa and the Middle East. But there is no information yet on whether such a five-door will appear in Russia.
