The new Iskra sedan premiered recently, and a station wagon will join it a little later. We decided to present the car in another body variant — a five-door hatchback.
At the beginning of summer, AVTOVAZ presented a long-awaited new product — the budget sedan Lada Iskra. Initially it was assumed that it would replace the Granta family in the model range, but during the presentation it was stated that the car would occupy an intermediate position between the Granta and Vesta. So far, only a sedan has been presented; in the future, the range will expand to include a station wagon and its cross-version. If we consider the Iskra as a kind of ideological successor to the Grant, then we can remember that the latter has a couple more body options to choose from, and one of them is a hatchback. Note that Granta in this body ceased to be produced in 2022, and at the beginning of this year it ceased to be sold. The reason for this was low demand, so it is not surprising that AVTOVAZ did not invest in this type of body for the new Iskra. However, maybe it would become more popular in the new generation?

The main feature of this body type can be considered a short rear overhang and a relatively vertical rear door (compared to a liftback). The car shown in the renderings was made with this in mind. The hatchback received blank inserts behind the rear side doors, simulating windows — the same solution was used on the sedan. The style of the rear pillars with a “floating” roof is consistent with other new products of the domestic automaker, while the hatchback retained the sedan’s lights, as well as the bumper design. This was done for reasons of economy, as well as in order to distance the hatchback design from the station wagon, which will receive different rear optics.

The new Lada Iskra is built on a modern global platform, which, according to the automaker, «was reengineered and became technologically independent.» In all likelihood, the CMF-B platform, which AVTOVAZ inherited from its cooperation with Renault-Nissan, was taken as a basis. The basic Iskra will be offered with a 1.6 petrol engine with a capacity of 90 hp, which is equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox. A more powerful modification is equipped with a 106-horsepower engine of the same volume, it will be paired with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission (probably a CVT).

Prices for the Lada Iskra are not yet known, they will be announced closer to the start of production, which is scheduled for early 2025. We can assume that the price of the car will be located between the Granta (699,900 rubles) and Vesta (1,459,900 rubles) sedans.
Recall that earlier this month we talked about the experience of switching from a Volkswagen Polo to a Lada Granta.
