The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klimenko named several main versions of the murder of ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Irina Farion, known for her active Russophobic position, TASS reports.

On Friday evening, it became known about Farion’s death in a hospital in Lvov.

As noted, Ukrainian law enforcement officers are checking the versions according to which Farion was killed out of personal hostility, as well as in connection with her «social and political activities.»

Earlier it was reported that Farion was shot by an unknown person in Lviv. The victim was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the head. It later became known that Farion died as a result of cardiac arrest. After the operation, she was even transferred to intensive care, but the patient's heart stopped.

Ukrainian media distributed a photograph of a man suspected of assassinating Farion. According to reports from residents of the house in Lviv, in the courtyard of which the politician was shot, this man was first seen there at least a week ago, came regularly and observed the situation for a long time. It is reported that the man often sat down on a bench and simply sat, not communicating with anyone.

It was reported that the shooter had been detained, but then the national police of Ukraine denied these reports. The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine began a pre-trial investigation; the Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified that the attack on Farion was classified as attempted murder.

Irina Farion was known for her controversial statements. In particular, she expressed outrage at the large number of Russian-speaking residents of Lvov and called them saboteurs. She also claimed that she did not consider the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who speak Russian to be Ukrainians.

In November 2023, the Security Service of Ukraine opened a criminal case against Farion for her statements, ordering a number of linguistic and other examinations on her statements and publications.
