The Mahindra Thar Roxx SUV, the five-door “Indian Jeep Wrangler”, has been declassified.

A full presentation of the new version will be held in the middle of next month. It is expected that the extended all-terrain vehicle will be available with petrol and diesel engines.

The current generation three-door Indian SUV Mahindra Thar, similar to the Jeep Wrangler, was introduced back in 2020. Local specialized media predicted the market debut of the five-door version at the beginning of this year. But only now the elongated Thar has been officially announced: the first video teaser has been published. At the same time, the manufacturer announced that the new modification will be sold with the “surname” Roxx.

The five-door version also differs from the “short” all-terrain vehicle in design. In particular, the Mahindra Thar Roxx received its own radiator grille and a different front bumper, and the headlights received more massive LED running light rings (the headlights themselves, by the way, are also diode). The sizes have not yet been announced. The length of the three-door Thar is 3985 mm, width – 1820 mm, height – 1844 or 1850 mm (depending on the version), wheelbase – 2450 mm. The passport ground clearance of the junior SUV is 226 mm.

The interior is not illuminated yet. Indian media write that a new multimedia system with a large screen was installed inside the Thar Roxx, while the Thar “just” has a 7-inch tablet. The Indians still hope that the five-door version will have a virtual dashboard, all-round cameras and adaptive cruise control — the “short” SUV does not have this goodness.

According to preliminary data, like the three-door Mahindra Thar, the five-door Thar Roxx will be offered with 1.5 and 2.2 turbodiesels, as well as with a 2.0 petrol turbo-four. At the same time, the engines of the new version may have their own settings. The base diesel of the “short” model now produces 119 hp, the power of the 2.2 diesel engine is 132 hp, and the gasoline engine is 152 hp. The Thar Roxx also has rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (part-time).

The presentation of the new product is scheduled for August 15, at which time prices will most likely be announced. The three-door Thar today costs from about 1,135,000 rupees, which is equivalent to 1,191,000 rubles at the current exchange rate.
