PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, July 26 Three tourists have been evacuated from the slopes of Klyuchevskoy volcano in Kamchatka after being injured in a rockfall, the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for Kamchatka Krai reports.
«Three tourists were injured on Klyuchevskoy Volcano due to a strong rockfall. The emergency services received a report of the incident on the night of July 26. It turned out that two men and a woman were making a long hike through the territory of the Three Volcanoes Park. Conquering Klyuchevskoy Volcano was supposed to be the final stage of their route,» the report says.
Having reached the top, the tourists decided to go down the other side of the giant, and then go along the slope to the proven path. At an altitude of 4000 meters, people were caught in a rockfall, receiving injuries. The group decided to split up — a guy and a girl went down a little lower and set up camp for the night, and the third tourist got to a house located at an altitude of 3300 meters.
«On the morning of July 26, young people also went down to the same point. The tourists were picked up by rescuers of the search and rescue team of the KGKU «TsOD» in a helicopter from the Kamchatka Territorial Center for Disaster Medicine. The people were taken to the regional hospital, where they were examined by doctors. All injuries were minor — the tourists were given assistance, but they refused hospitalization,» the Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.
Klyuchevskoy Volcano is located in the Ust-Kamchatsky District of Kamchatka. The height of the giant is 4850 meters above sea level.
