One of the toughest and most spectacular off-road races in the world, RFC GS Ural, was held in the Chelyabinsk region with the support of the Volga Oil brand of motor oils. Victory in it can become a lucky ticket to the final stage in Malaysia, which has been held in the jungle in the midst of rains for over 20 years and is considered an unofficial World Trophy Raid Championship.
15 crews gathered in the resort town of Miass – athletes from Krasnodar, Cherkessk, St. Petersburg, Perm, the Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk regions, the republics of Bashkortostan and Udmurtia. Heavy rains, storm warnings, knee-deep mud and the inspiring roar of engines – the race turned out to be spectacular.
The competition format is short in length, but very intense special sections that athletes must pass in a limited time. All participants without exception were required to have good equipment preparation, extraordinary endurance and driving skills. In all the presented classes R1, R2 and R3 (from standard cars to prepared super-monsters) there were enough difficult and, at first glance, completely impassable obstacles.
The conditions for receiving the highest score for conquering any of the 16 special stages were extremely strict. Firstly, it was necessary to adhere to a strict sequence of actions of the crew at the start and finish, first of all, this concerned safety requirements. Secondly, there were strict time regulations — exactly 15 minutes to pass all the obstacles. Outside assistance was prohibited on the course, and damage to the tape and fence entailed a penalty with the deduction of the coveted points. It was all the more interesting to watch the tactics of the athletes, who surprised with their fearlessness and adventurism.
One of the strongest teams in Russia was represented by the RFC Kavkaz team, whose members flew in from Pyatigorsk, Krasnodar, Cherkessk and Grozny. This is the name of the crew under No. 100 — «Grozny». The team showed the best results in almost all sections. Team leader Arsen Gamzayan himself went through all the Rainforest Challenge competitions, including the final in Malaysia.
The competition is great, the track is excellent. If we talk about difficulties, then there are no difficulties for regular participants. They are already accustomed to rain, mud, to all this «ugliness». A good, diverse and dynamic track. It has everything: slow and fast sections, winch sections, lots of water, mud — it has everything! The rain added many interesting nuances. The competition is called «Rainforest Challenge», which translates as «Rainforest Challenge». Based on the results of all three days of competition in the R1 category, the first place was taken by crew No. 100 of the «Grozny» prototype of Alexander Kolyago and navigator Rasul Khubiev. In the R2 class, the best results in the section were achieved by crew No. 209 from Perm, Alexander Osetrov and Stanislav Plotnikov in a UAZ Hunter, and in R3, the victory was won by St. Petersburg crew No. 304 in a Suzuki Samurai, Vladimir Okoneshnikov and Alexander Yusov.
Hundreds of spectators followed the progress of the competition. Those who were afraid of the rain or could not come, watched the competition live. The best athletes received useful prizes, quite consistent with the spirit and nature of the competition. Including oils from the Volga-oil brand, popular among off-road racers.
