ULAN-UDE, August 12 An exhibition of masterpieces of Buddhist Buryat art from the State Hermitage Museum has opened in Ulan-Ude as part of the II International Buddhist Forum, said the head of Buryatia, Alexey Tsydenov.
«Dear fellow countrymen, we are starting the work of our II International Buddhist Forum with the opening of the exhibition «Masterpieces of Buddhist Buryat Art from the State Hermitage». The Museum of the History of Buryatia exhibits items of Buryat culture, carefully preserved to this day. For the first time in Buryatia, gifts presented at different times to the royal family are presented. Sculptures, altar decorations, drawings are examples of high craftsmanship and fine work of Buryat craftsmen of the 19th century,» Tsydenov wrote on his Telegram channel.
He noted that the exhibition will run until November 17, and invited people to visit the Museum of the History of Buryatia to be inspired by the masterpieces of the State Hermitage collection.
The II Buddhist Forum is being held from August 12 to 14 in Ulan-Ude. It is being held on the eve of the celebration of the 260th anniversary of the formation of the Institute of Pandito Khambo Lamas – heads of Buddhist communities in Russia. Representatives of Buddhist religious, scientific and public organizations of Russia and foreign countries where Buddhism is widespread will take part in it. Delegations from 15 countries are expected to take part in it, including Japan, Western countries, as well as Laos, Cambodia, Bhutan, Vietnam, Nepal, Sri Lanka and others.
< br />At the First International Forum a year earlier, five Russian universities created a consortium for the study of Buddhism. At the second forum, it will expand and foreign universities may join, said earlier the rector of the Buddhist University named after I Pandito Khambo Lama Damba Darja Zayaeva, Doctor of Buddhist Philosophy Dymbryl Dashibaldanov (Geshe Dymbryl). At the forum, he noted, seven panel discussions will be held — more than last year. They will discuss the Buddhist understanding of consciousness based on evidence from different countries and approaches, the problem of ecology and others. In addition, a separate section will be dedicated to the 260th anniversary of the Pandito Khambo Lama Institute in Russia — the head of the Buddhist sangha (community) — established under Empress Catherine II.
On the eve of the forum, on August 4, Buddhist teachings of White Tara took place in Buryatia, in which about 2 thousand believers took part. In Buddhism, White Tara (in Sanskrit — «savior») is a bodhisattva (enlightened being), who personifies the deeds of all Buddhas in the sphere of prolonging life. She has seven eyes that help her see everything that is happening around her and provide support to those who need it.
