General Motors Corporation has introduced the third-generation GMC Terrain compact crossover: in technical terms, it repeats the related Chevrolet Equinox, but has a more luxurious interior and a premium image.
The fourth-generation Chevrolet Equinox debuted at the beginning of this year, and today the new GMC Terrain was declassified — for it, the current generation is the third in a row. Both new models are built on the once again modernized GM D2XX platform, which traces its lineage back to the Delta platform — it was developed in the early 2000s. Hybrid versions of the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain did not appear with the change of generations, although GM management seems to have taken a course on expanding the line of hybrid models, since the demand for «electric cars» is slowing down, and the social demand for ecology has not gone away.

Only one petrol engine is declared for the new GMC Terrain — a 1.5-liter petrol turbocharged four-cylinder (177 hp, 275 Nm) paired with an 8-speed hydromechanical automatic. At the start of sales, all trim levels of the crossover will have all-wheel drive with a power take-off clutch to the rear wheels, but later, as the American media (in particular Car and Driver) assure, a “budget” version with front-wheel drive will appear, which has a CVT instead of an 8-speed automatic, and the maximum torque of the 1.5-liter turbo engine is reduced to 250 Nm.
There are currently three trim levels for the new GMC Terrain: the base Elevation, the off-road AT4, and the luxury Denali. All of them have an improved set of electronic driver assistants, including an automatic emergency braking system that recognizes cyclists and pedestrians, and it works even when reversing. The design of the radiator grille depends on the trim level. Two-tone body paint is offered for an extra charge. The wheel arches, sidewalls, and bumpers of the Terrain have become more prominent with the change of generations. The dimensions have not yet been disclosed, but according to Car and Driver, with the change of generations, the crossover has become slightly shorter, but slightly wider and higher. For reference, here are the dimensions of the new Chevrolet Equinox: length — 4653 mm, width — 1902 mm, height — 1667 mm, wheelbase — 2730 mm.
The interior of the new Terrain has been significantly redesigned compared to its sister Chevrolet Equinox: GMC has its own door panels, its own steering wheel and a more massive front panel with an 11-inch instrument screen and a vertical 15-inch multimedia screen. The Denali package includes heated seats for all seats, 19-inch wheels (20-inch wheels are optional), animated optics, adaptive shock absorbers, and a hill descent control system.

In the off-road AT4 configuration, the crossover comes with increased ground clearance, metal underbody protection, red towing loops in the front bumper, all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, and several driving modes for different types of soil.
The new GMC Terrain will go on sale at the end of this year, prices have not yet been announced, but they will certainly increase significantly with the change of generations. The second-generation GMC Terrain is still available to order from American dealers at a price of $ 30,095, including shipping.
We add that in the first half of this year, the outgoing Terrain was sold in the United States in the amount of 49,123 units, which is 30.6% more than sales in January-June 2023. Such a surge in consumer interest is associated precisely with the expectation of an increase in the price of the model after the change of generations. During the same period, the Chevrolet Equinox was sold in the United States in the amount of 107,468 units (+ 1.5%).
