Mummy of missing store clerk found in Iowa
The story of a missing salesman who disappeared without a trace for a decade is being actively discussed online. The 25-year-old guy ran out of his house in a fit of rage in a snowstorm and disappeared. They searched for him for several years, but found him only ten years later — completely by accident. All this time, his body was in the grocery store where he worked. His story was described by Lenta.ru.
In 2009, 25-year-old Larry Eli Murillo-Moncada celebrated Thanksgiving with his family in a small town in Iowa. November was cold, there was a snowstorm outside.
Shortly before that, he was diagnosed with depression, and he began taking antidepressants. That day, he probably mixed up the dosage or experienced side effects. His mother said that he began to hallucinate, he was disoriented and heard voices.
«He felt like his heart was beating too fast, so he decided he needed to eat sugar to calm down,» Larry's mother recalls.
He ended up running outside barefoot and without a coat. His car and keys were left at home.
A search for Murillo-Moncada began soon after, but to no avail — he had disappeared without a trace.
Before his disappearance, Larry worked at a No Frills supermarket. After he went missing, police searched the store but found no trace.
The mother always suspected that her son might have gone to the store, even though he was not on shift that day. The police did not conduct a full search of the store.
After the disappearance, customers began to notice a strange smell in No Frills. “I used to shop there a lot and it smelled terrible! I asked the butcher if it could be the blood from the meat, but he assured me it was very clean,” one customer shared.
Over the years, the foul odor continued to bother customers and store employees, who complained about it to management.
In 2016, the store closed, but the premises were not cleaned. In 2019, workers cleaning out an abandoned supermarket discovered the mummified remains of a man behind a refrigerator.
Larry fell in and was unable to get out. The body was found in an unnatural position, and his identification was difficult due to the state of his remains. DNA testing later confirmed that it was Murillo-Moncada.
He was found ten years after his disappearance.
