IRKUTSK, August 14 A yachtsman from Irkutsk died after jumping off a cliff into the water to escape a bear, the Federal State Budgetary Institution «Zapovednoye Podlemorye» reports.
The man, traveling along Lake Baikal with his friend, moored to the shore in Zmeinaya Bay. In search of wild plants (wild-growing useful plants), they went into the forest, where they met a bear.
«They got scared and ran, then jumped off the cliff into the water. One of them died (crashed), the second with a broken collarbone was taken by the employees of «Zapovednoye Podlemorye» to the Barguzinskaya Central Regional Hospital, he was given first aid,» the report says.
Police and the Ministry of Emergency Situations were called to the scene, the institution added.
According to the Telegram channel Mash, the deceased is Stanislav P., who has been involved in sailing for more than 30 years, he has many awards, including four Baikal Cups. Chairman of the public sports organization «Sailing Federation of the Irkutsk Region» Alexander Moskovskikh confirmed that Irkutsk yachtsman Stanislav Pechenkin died in Buryatia. He headed the Irkutsk branch of the Russian Association of DN class iceboats.
