Jacob Rees-Mogg delivers the keynote speech at the National Conference on Conservatism. poorer after «surrendering the drop,» Jacob Rees-Mogg will say in Monday's keynote speech.
In a scathing attack on the prime minister, Mr. Rees-Mogg will accuse Mr. Sunak of violating promises to repeal thousands of laws European Union, because of which he can be accused of «unreliability».
The speech, delivered at the National Conference on Conservatism starting in London on Monday, will serve as a rallying cry for Eurosceptics in the Tory party who fear Mr Sunak is eroding promises made by Boris Johnson to secure his 2019 election victory.
Mr Rees-Mogg, who left the cabinet after Mr Sunak was elected party leader, said on Monday that the decision to lift the EU Reservation of Right (REUL) deadline before the end of the year would prevent Britain to benefit economically from Brexit. The law would result in the removal of thousands of EU laws from the law books.
Instead, Kemi Badenoch, the business and trade minister, announced last week that only some EU laws would be replaced. Ms. Badenoch blamed the so-called «blotch», a mixture of civil service stubbornness and establishment orthodoxy, for the 100-degree turn.
Mr. Rees-Mogg will blame the Sunak administration for giving in to him.< /p>
Mr Rees-Mogg will say: “I am concerned that since we have now abandoned the REUL bill, despite the clear promise of the Prime Minister, this will mean a failure to understand the economic benefits that Brexit can give us . .”
He will express his fears that the UK will “once again just hide the European Union” and warn: “The opportunity created by Brexit to rebuild the nation is not being used.”
Mr Rees-Mogg will urge Mr. -on Sunaka to do more to kick-start the economy. After attempts by his predecessor, Liz Truss, were thwarted by backlash from the city and financial markets.
“After the double change of leadership, it was conservative and it was necessary to support this government, but it should be more ambitious,” Mr. Rees-Mogg said. Rachel Reeves [Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer].
«Tethered to EU rules»
«Passing the REUL bill, which Boris Johnson was determined to push through, is not just totemic, but will leave the UK tied to EU rules that contribute to less welfare in Europe.
“We will effectively remain within the framework of the regulation of the European Union, as this limits the ability of businesses to compete and innovate, the very things on which prosperity depends. This reversal is the defeat of ambition, prosperity and democracy.”
He continues: “Rishi Sunak has made a specific promise to repeal thousands of EU laws. He broke it. This is unfortunate, as one of its supposed virtues is its reliability, and subservience to the drop risks making a mockery of the government.
“It also risks making us poorer. Restoring economic growth is vital: a sovereign, parliamentary, constitutional settlement in the UK is the way to achieve this. But it must be used. This will not happen if the ruling philosophy of the conservatives in power is simply to «listen to official advice».
“This advice is designed to comply with the EU rules, which were developed in Brussels mainly for large corporations. These rules are destroying the innovative small businesses that will be our economic future. If this continues, the result will be simple. The United Kingdom will be poor.”
