West Ham women's team manager Paul Konchesky has stepped down after a year in charge of the women's Super League team with only one league win since December.
The former left Back at the club, the club's men's team finished eighth in the WSL this season, but results after the winter break were disappointing, with a source telling Telegraph Sport that the two sides had mutually agreed it was time for a change.
The 42-year-old was previously an assistant coach before being appointed in May 2022. Under his leadership, this season the club also reached the semi-finals of the Continental Tires League Cup, but in this match lost at home with a score of 7: 0 against Chelsea.
“I am proud to have been able to manage this club,” he said. Konchesky said. “My players and my staff have always given 100 per cent and while some of our results this season have been disappointing, we still have a lot to be proud of, including reaching the semi-finals of the Copa Conti. I wish the club all the best for the future.”
A big fan of the Hammers, from the age of five he watched games at the old Boleyn Ground stadium and subsequently scored goals for his team. in the 2006 FA Cup Final in Cardiff, Konchesky's name is mentioned fondly among the men in the club's history books, but his time was in charge of the women's team. The sides were mixed.
An encouraging start to the season with three wins in his team's first five championship matches was then overshadowed by a 10-match WSL streak without a win, including eight losses in that sequence in the second half of the campaign.
