GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition: 31 cm ground clearance and standard equipment

Designed for off-road modification of the American brand's midsize pickup truck, it will hit the home market next year.

GMC pickup truck Canyon is the twin of the Chevrolet Colorado, both brands are owned by the American concern General Motors. The current Colorado truck debuted at the end of July last year, and the third-generation GMC Canyon sibling was due in the middle of the following month. Then it became known that the role of the top variant is played by AT4X. Now the company has unveiled a new «off-road beast» — Canyon AT4X AEV Edition.

The new modification received a number of new things focused on off-road. One of the most notable changes is the beadlock rims; they are shod with large 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. The GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition also has a very impressive ground clearance, it is 310 mm. For comparison, the standard version of the AT4X, this figure is 271 mm. The angles of entry, exit and ramp for the special version of the pickup truck are 38.2, 26.0 and 26.9 degrees, respectively (for the usual top version — 36.9, 25.0 and 24.5 degrees, respectively).

In addition, the off-road-ready mid-size pickup truck was equipped with durable steel bumpers, and a winch was also installed in front; red towing hooks are also striking elements. The off-road version of the truck received special AEV fender extensions (by the way, the name of the division stands for American Expedition Vehicles).

The interior of the GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition also received its share of new things, in particular, special “all-weather” floor mats, auxiliary switches and headrests with an embroidered name of the special version. The rest of the interior is stock, so you can see an 11-inch virtual instrument cluster, as well as an 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The equipment of the presented “off-road beast” is standard: recall that all versions are equipped with a non-alternative petrol turbo four with a volume of 2.7 liters, its output is 314 hp, and the maximum torque is 583 Nm (it is worth noting that the related Chevrolet Colorado has less powerful versions). This engine only works in conjunction with an eight-speed hydromechanical automatic transmission. The drive for the current GMC Canyon can be either rear or all-wheel drive; the rear axle is solid and suspended on springs.

Canyon pickup load capacity (depending on version) varies in the range from 458 to 744 kg. The tailgate of the truck can be equipped with a stowage tray with a lid, as well as drainage holes for draining water, cup holders and a measuring ruler that is printed on the main edge.

The company has not yet declassified the price of the GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition, which should appear on the US market in 2024. The 2023 Canyon AT4X is currently priced at nearly $57,000; dealers are expected to ask for over $60,000 for the off-road beast.
