Hyundai unveiled a sports version of the N electric cross-hatchback Hyundai Ioniq 5 as part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, it turned out to be more powerful, faster and much more sophisticated than the sister Kia EV6 GT.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 debuted in February 2021 and has gone through a technical upgrade a year later, and now debuts a sporty top version of the N, which, given the scale improvements can generally be considered a separate model. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is not a tech clone of the twin-engined Kia EV6 GT sibling, but a much cooler model with a bunch of signature N-whistles that make the electric hot hatch try to be as emotional to drive as a gas-powered sports car.
On the outside, the Ioniq 5 N differs from the simpler versions with new, more aggressive black bumpers with red contrasting inserts, a diffuser integrated into the rear bumper, and it has checkered flag-style reflectors on the sides. A larger spoiler with a V-shaped notch for a third brake light is installed on the tailgate, the tailgate glass is equipped with a wiper (other versions do not have it). Forged 21-inch wheels with a special design are shod with low-profile Pirelli P Zero tires in dimensions 275/35 R 21. In general, the Ioniq 5 N is longer, wider and lower than other versions, its overall length is 4715 mm, width is 1940 mm, height is 1585 mm . The wheelbase has not changed — 3000 mm.

In addition to visible changes in the bodywork, there are invisible ones: 42 additional welding points and 2.1 m of adhesive seams have been added to increase rigidity. Reinforced subframes, engine and battery mounts, drive shafts and even the steering gear. The chassis has been completely reconfigured. More powerful brakes are installed: the diameter of the front brake discs is 400 mm (four-piston calipers), the rear ones are 360 mm (single-piston calipers).

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has a twin-engine power plant and all-wheel drive, the power of the front electric motor is 166 kW (226 hp), the rear one is 282 kW (383 hp). The maximum combined power is 448 kW (609 hp), and in the N Grin Boost mode, which is activated by the red button on the steering wheel and lasts 10 seconds, it increases to 478 kW (650 hp). The electric hot hatch picks up the first “hundred” in 3.4 seconds, the maximum speed is 260 km/h. The battery capacity is the largest in the range: 84 kWh, the power reserve on a single charge is not indicated. Compared to other versions, Ioniq 5 N has an improved engine and battery cooling system.

The most interesting thing about the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is a set of electronic add-ons that make eating on it look like driving a gasoline hot hatch. Let's list the main ones. The N e-shift system mimics the operation of an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission: it limits the torque of the engines in each quasi-gear and creates shocks when shifting (there are paddle shifters for this). The Torque Kick Drift function simulates the operation of the clutch on rear-wheel drive vehicles while sliding. The N Active Sound+ system generates the sound of a running combustion engine using ten speakers (eight inside the body, two outside), but offers other soundtracks as an alternative — for example, the sound of a twin-engine fighter aircraft …

In addition, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N offers the driver several typical track control programs for the power plant, brakes and battery — each owner will study them for a long time.
The price and start date of Hyundai Ioniq 5 N sales have not yet been announced. For reference, let's say that the Kia EV6 GT with a capacity of 430 kW (585 hp) costs in Germany from 72,990 euros, that is, the Ioniq 5 N will obviously be more expensive.
