Gigi Hadid Arrested in the Cayman Islands for Possession of Marijuana

The 28-year-old model, who hosted the Netflix competition show Next In Fashion, was arrested with her. friend Leah McCarthy, July 10.

According to Cayman Islands Customs and Border Protection, the couple were arrested for «importing marijuana and importing utensils used for marijuana consumption.»

Hadid and McCarthy arrived on a private jet from the United States, where their luggage was searched and a small amount of cannabis was seized.

July 12, they appeared in the Cayman Islands Court of General Jurisdiction and were charged with importation controlled drug and importation of drug paraphernalia, to which they pleaded guilty.

They were charged with Cayman Islands dollars 1,000 (£920), and authorities say the conviction was not rendered.

Hadid's rep said she «enjoyed» the Cayman Islands despite her arrest and that the cannabis was legally purchased in New York «with a medical license».

The model also shared the photos on her Instagram. on the Tuesday of her vacation, which showed her at the beach with friends, writing: «All's well that ends well.»

In a statement given to PA news agency, a spokesperson for Hadid said: «Gigi was traveling with marijuana legally purchased in New York, NY with a medical license.

“As of 2017, it is also licensed for medical use in Grand Cayman. on the island.»

Hadid began her modeling career at the age of 2 after being spotted by Guess co-founder, Moroccan-born fashion designer Paul Marciano.
