It is expected that the «charged» new items of the Bavarian brand will be presented either in 2027 or in 2028.
The development of «charged» sedan and station wagon The BMW M3, as well as the M4 coupe, is handled by the BMW M division, whose history dates back to 1972. Recall that last year, in honor of the celebration of the 50th anniversary, special versions of the “hot” four- and two-door were presented (the limited edition was called the M 50 Jahre Edition). Recall that the models were created on the basis of regular 3 series and 4 series, respectively, the «emki» of the current generation were presented in the fall of 2020.

The current BMW M3 and M4 have a 3.0-liter bi-turbo six with either 480 or 510 hp under the hood. The maximum torque is 550 and 650 Nm, respectively. The «younger» engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, and the «senior» one is offered with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Drive — rear or all-wheel drive.
Now BMW M is already thinking about the next generation of M3 and M4: it is expected that the new “emki” will debut either in 2027 or 2028. According to the head of BMW M, Frank van Meel, quoted by the Australian edition of Drive, the cars of the next generation may either remain with gasoline internal combustion engines, or will receive an all-electric “stuffing”.
He explained that the manufacturer will strive to ensure that the future BMW M3 and M4 become completely “green”, but the division will really decide on this step only if the performance of such cars turns out to be noticeably better compared to the previous generation. Frank van Meel specified that such «charged» electric cars will have to achieve «performance targets.»Another head of the BMW M division noted that the emok will definitely not have several types of “stuffing”. That is, if the company still decides to stop at internal combustion engines, the next M3 and M4 will not have alternative battery versions (and vice versa). The brand has a BMW i4 liftback. Its top version — i4 M50 — is equipped with a twin-engine unit (one electric motor on each axle). The total output of this system is 544 hp, and the maximum torque is 795 Nm. The first «hundred» five-door is gaining in 3.9 seconds. The all-wheel drive i4 has a certified range without recharging of 510 km (with a battery capacity of 83.9 kWh). The debut of this station wagon was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the BMW M division, the novelty was brought to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The BMW M3 Touring does not have rear-wheel drive versions, it is offered only with all-wheel drive and a 510-horsepower engine.
