The rule will also apply to all cars with hybrid power plants and all-electric «stuffing».
Japan intends to impose additional restrictions on the Russian Federation, they will directly affect the local automotive market. This time we are talking about a ban on the export of all hybrids, electric cars, as well as gasoline and diesel cars with engines larger than 1.9 liters. It is also important that both new and used cars fall under this ban.

Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Nishimura Yasutoshi spoke about the new restrictions. It is known that the list will also include some auto components: we are talking about car locks, car seats, as well as tires for large vehicles. The agency intends to publish a complete list of products prohibited for export next week, on August 2. The date of entry into force of the restrictions has also been determined — August 9, 2023.
Recall that in the spring of last year, Japan decided to ban the export of luxury goods to Russia, including luxury cars and motorcycles. At that time, it was also about new and used cars, whose market value exceeds 6 million yen (equivalent to about 3.9 million rubles at the current exchange rate). The maximum price tag for motorcycles is 600,000 yen.
Pictured: Mazda 6 < p>As previously reported, before the introduction of restrictions on the supply of products to the Russian Federation, the share of cars and spare parts for them accounted for more than half of the annual volume of Japanese exports to the Russian Federation; so, in 2021, it amounted to 862.4 billion yen. Now this figure is obviously many times less.
Also in the spring of 2022, restrictions on the supply of cars to the Russian Federation were introduced by the States and Europe. So, in the Old World, cars whose price exceeds 50 thousand euros (equivalent to about 4.98 million rubles at the current exchange rate) fell under this ban. And according to a document prepared by the US Department of Commerce, restrictions generally apply to all American-made cars.

Over the past year and a half, the Russian market for new cars has slumped significantly. So, according to Avtostat estimates, 626.3 thousand copies were sold in 2022, which is 58.7% less than in the pre-crisis 2021. Due to the low base, an increase is observed this year: the result of the first half of 2023 is 401.6 thousand cars (14% more than in January-June 2022).
According to the forecast, the Russian car market will end the current year in positive territory. The baseline scenario assumes that by the end of 2023, about 815,000 new passenger cars will be sold in the country (this figure is 30% more than the low result of 2022). Under a pessimistic scenario, Russians will buy about 780,000 new units this year (an increase of 25%). According to the optimistic scenario, the result will be approximately 850 thousand units (36% more).
