The revised rules for the payment of scrappage fees for cars put into operation in the Russian Federation came into force today, August 1, 2023. As a result, rates for a number of transport categories have increased significantly. So, for passenger cars, the utility tax was indexed on average 1.7-3.7 times (the increase in the rate depends on the engine size), for light commercial vehicles — 2.5-3.4 times, for trucks — 1.7 times , for buses — 2.2-4.8 times, and for electric buses — 8.7 times.

According to Autonews.ru, the increase in the segment of passenger cars officially sold in the country was not so noticeable, so cars of Russian and many Chinese brands should not rise in price due to the increase in salvage rates. Although, do not forget that they can still get rewritten price tags due to the weakening of the ruble. It should be reminded that the RF authorities compensate local automakers for the payment of salvage fees in case of a high degree of localization.
A relatively small increase in the price of new foreign cars that are officially imported into the country is expected. The fact is that the vast majority of them are Chinese imported cars, which are almost entirely equipped with engines ranging from 1.0 to 2.0 liters. The scrap rate for legal entities increased from 178,400 to 306,000 rubles.

According to the publication, those few cars officially delivered to the country with an engine capacity of more than two liters, prices have already begun to rise. It should be noted that for cars with engines from 2.0 to 3.0 liters, the recycling fee rate has increased from 259,600 to 844,800 rubles. And for models with engines from 3.0 to 3.5 liters, this figure will increase from 281,600 to 970,000 rubles; from 3.5 liters — from 445,000 to 1,235,000 rubles.
As the newspaper notes, the increase in salvage fees will affect parallel imports, which now also depends on individuals. Innovations will seriously affect the price of cars with engines of 3.0 and more, which are imported by private individuals for their resale in the Russian Federation. It should be noted that earlier the rate for individuals (regardless of the category of imported car) was only 3,400 rubles. Now such a waste collection applies only to those who import an electric car and a car with an engine up to three liters; if he imports no more than one car per year and does not sell it within 12 months after purchase. In other cases, rates apply for legal entities.

The publication noted that the most noticeable due to the increase in recycling fees, such imported models as the Hyundai Sonata will rise in price (the increase may be a quarter of the current cost, now you can find it at dealers for at least 2.9 million rubles), Kia Sportage, Toyota Camry and RAV4, Mazda 6 and CX- 5, as well as the Mitsubishi Outlander. It should be noted that many of the listed models in the pre-crisis years were in the TOP-25 most popular cars in Russia.
