Chelsea close to winning signing Robert Sanchez from Brighton in a deal that could end up worth up to £25m.
Sanchez was considered one of the most promising youngsters European goalkeepers before he ceded his place at Brighton to Jason. Steele last season.
If the deal goes through as expected, the 25-year-old Spaniard will challenge Kepa Arrizabalaga for a starting position in Mauricio Pochettino's squad.
A move to Stamford Bridge will reunite Sanchez with Ben Roberts, his former goalkeeping coach at Brighton, who joined Chelsea last September.
Chelsea hope Sanchez, who has made two caps for Spain, will not leave. will be their only summer visit from Brighton as they remain committed to signing midfielder Moises Caicedo before the end of the transfer window.
Chelsea's latest £80m offer for Caicedo has been turned down by Brighton, who appreciates 21 year old for £100m. Caicedo wants to go to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea were looking for another goalkeeper after Édouard Mendy left for Saudi side Al Ahli in early summer.
Sánchez's departure from Brighton seemed inevitable as he was replaced by Steele in the spring. He was not included in the club's pre-season tour of the United States, while Brighton had already signed a replacement in Bart Verbruggen, who came from Anderlecht for around £16m.
Meanwhile , Chelsea will test new striker Christopher Nkunku in the coming days after the Frenchman limped with a knee injury in a pre-season game against Borussia Dortmund in the USA.
Nkunku, who joined from RB Leipzig for £52 million, he impressed in pre-season and hopes to be able to play in his club's first Premier League game against Liverpool next weekend.
