Labor race adviser boasted of stopping deportation to Rwanda

Jacqueline Mackenzie is Labor's racial adviser. bragged about blocking a client's deportation to Rwanda.

Jacqueline McKenzie led the fight against the government scheme as head of immigration and asylum law on Leigh Day.

She was part of the workforce a group that reported to the party while working to develop diversity initiatives for Labour's next general election manifesto.

A Conservative campaign file notes that Ms McKenzie was behind one of the lawsuits. which forced the suspension of what was supposed to be the first deportation flight from Rwanda on June 14 last year.

Ms Mackenzie called the plan Rwanda is «appalling» and urged the African country to face sanctions for participating in it.

In 2021, she represented a Jamaican who served eight years for kidnapping. as he fought to avoid deportation, citing high blood pressure. According to The Telegraph, a doctor diagnosed him as unfit for flight or detention, and that he received compensation from the Home Office.

The task force, led by Baroness Lawrence and co-chair Anneliese Dodds, chairwoman of the Labor Party, has completed its work , meaning that Ms Mackenzie no longer has any official affiliation with the Labor Party.

The CCHQ file also notes that a Labor activist named Bella Sankey ran Detention Action, a charity that challenged the High Court's ruling on the legality of Rwanda's plan, prior to her election as counsel in May.

Eleven lawyers from Doughty Street Chambers, which Sir Keir Starmer co-founded, presided over the Rwanda case before the Court of Appeal.

Duncan Lewis Solicitors, also on the legal list, described itself as «representing clients in matters close to Labor's heart.»#

Swella Braverman, the home secretary, said: «Sir Keir has a secret admiration for his network of conspiring friends trying to thwart our plans to stop the boats.

«While we are doing our best to stop the boats, Starmer and his fellow activists are doing their best. to sabotage our efforts so that they can use them for cynical political gain.”

Downing Street will make a number of statements this week on migration policy, seeking to exploit differences between the parties on the issue.

“Ministers have written a check for £140,000,000 for an expulsion policy that has failed completely and pledged another £170,000 per person despite evidence that [this] will not serve as a deterrent and risks exacerbating the human trafficking situation.

Ms Mackenzie said: “As a lawyer, I represent my clients to ensure that the law is accurately applied to their cases. I was not involved in the judicial review of the partnership with Rwanda, but the two most senior judges in the UK ruled that the plan was illegal.

“As for the Labor Party, I was invited to volunteer for a multi-sectoral group… to study racial inequality in the UK, similar to the group chaired by Tony Sewall of the Conservative Party. I also participated in another panel chaired by MP Priti Patel on the Windrush scandal and was happy about it.”
