Hyundai has unveiled the fifth-generation Santa Fe mid-size crossover. In native South Korea, it will go on sale this month, in other markets — in the first half of 2024.
Hyundai declassified the design of the “fifth” Santa Fe last month: many then agreed that the new Korean crossover copied the style of British Land Rover SUVs, but it cannot be denied that it has a lot of original details – for example, a memorable H-shaped LED optics. Not everyone liked the look and location of the horizontal taillights, but such lights made it possible to make the tailgate as wide as possible, when open it occupies a horizontal position and creates the effect of an outdoor terrace, you can place a picnic table under it.
1/2 2/2With the change of generations, the Santa Fe wheelbase has increased from 2765 to 2815 mm (meaning the global version of the crossover, an elongated Santa Fe is produced in China), the overall length has increased from 4785 to 4830 mm, the width is the same — 1900 mm, the height varies from 1720 to 1780 mm depending on the equipment (in the previous generation it was 1685 mm). The body pillars behind the rear doors have covered handles for easier access to rooftop cargo. The standard wheel size is 18, 20 or 21 inches. Curb weight — from 2060 to 2295 kg, depending on modification.

The cabin has become more spacious: the legroom in the second row has increased by 35 mm to 1075 mm, in the third row by 15 mm to 761 mm. The stock of space in height in the third row has grown by 69 mm to 958 mm. Armchairs of the second and third rows in the folded position form a flat floor — two beds can be arranged on it. Instead of a standard three-seater sofa in the second row, you can order two individual chairs of superior comfort, they have an adjustable angle of inclination not only for the backs, but also for the pillows. Trunk volume according to the VDA methodology — from 725 to 1275 liters, depending on the number of seats involved.

Drawn as if by a ruler, the front panel looks much stricter, more expensive and more modern than that of the «fourth» Santa Fe. The driver now has a fully virtual two-screen display (2 x 12.3 inches), with the multimedia screen slightly turned towards the driver. The separate climate control unit has its own 6.6-inch touchscreen, but traditional rotary knobs are used to adjust the temperature, which is convenient. On the top floor of the high two-story central tunnel is a wireless charging slot for two smartphones. There are two glove boxes, the top one is equipped with an ultraviolet disinfector for sterilizing personal belongings. All finishes are made from environmentally friendly materials using recycled materials.

There are still few technical details about the new Santa Fe: the press release does not say anything about the suspension, brakes and all-wheel drive system, but the range of power plants is disclosed. The most powerful and dynamic version of the crossover will be equipped with a 2.5T GDI gasoline turbo four from the Theta III family (281 hp, 422 Nm) and an 8-speed DCT automatic transmission (with two clutches), while the atmospheric version of this engine (194 hp, 246 Nm) an 8-speed hydromechanical automatic transmission is put in a pair. Santa Fe with 2.5-liter turbo accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds, top speed is 210 km/h.

1.6T GDI Gamma petrol turbo engine III will be offered only as part of hybrid powertrains: on a socketless version of the HEV, it produces 180 hp. and 265 Nm, on the PHEV version recharged from an external source — 160 hp. and 265 Nm. The power of the electric motor implanted in the 6-speed «automatic» in both cases was not disclosed. Concept
Together with the serial crossover, the “adventure” Santa Fe XRT concept with “toothy” tires, an expeditionary trunk and other off-road ammunition is shown. There is no doubt that something similar will be offered as a special edition or an optional equipment package, because the previous Santa Fe already had an XRT version for the North American market.
