The all-terrain vehicle is now presented as the Dongfeng in China. After the rebranding, the model also acquired a different engine and gearbox.
This SUV was announced by Zhengzhou Nissan, a joint venture between Dongfeng and Nissan, at the beginning of summer, but now sales have started in China. You can’t name a completely new model — we have before us a modernized frame all-terrain vehicle Nissan Terra. But they decided to finally give the Chinese version to Dongfeng, in addition, they renamed it: the name Paladin was revived for the model (a car with that name was produced in China from 2003 to 2015).

Recall that the current Terra has been in service since 2018, it is built on the basis of the current generation Nissan Navara pickup truck. It was China that became the debut market for a passenger SUV, later the SUV also reached the countries of Southeast Asia, and in 2020 the model underwent restyling (but not in China), while expanding its habitat: under the name X-Terra, the frame began to be sold also in the Middle East. But back to Paladin.

If the “world” Terra after restyling noticeably changed in appearance, then Dongfeng Paladin got only a different radiator grille, well, the filling was also replaced in the headlights, plus the exhaust pipe is now hidden under the bumper. But for the Paladin they came up with a separate emblem. The dimensions are the same as those of the pre-reform Chinese SUV, except for the height: 4882/1850/1875 mm (the old Terra is 40 mm lower), the wheelbase is 2850 mm.
Dongfeng Paladin 1/2 Dongfeng Paladin 2/2But the interior, on the contrary, was thoroughly redrawn, Dongfeng Paladin received a new front panel, door cards and steering wheel, digital tidy, an upgraded central tunnel and a different gear lever. The main feature is a multimedia system with a 12-inch vertical tablet (Terra does not have this in other countries). The list of equipment also includes all-round cameras, adaptive cruise control (previously it was a regular “cruise”) and a blind spot monitoring system.

The equipment was also replaced: instead of the Nissan aspirated QR25 2.5 (193 hp, 245 Nm), a 2.0 petrol turbo four from the Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi joint venture was installed, which produces 228 hp. and 360 Nm. The new engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic, while the old Chinese Terra is equipped with a six-speed manual or 7AKP. Drive rear or full. Note that in other countries diesels are provided for Nissan Terra.

In our market, the current Nissan Terra SUV were not officially sold, Motorinvest, the new distributor of Dongfeng in the Russian Federation, did not announce Paladin either. Although there are still chances for the Paladin to appear in Russia, after all, the Dongfeng DF6 pickup, the brother of the Nissan Navara, has reached us.
