England's attempt to lift the Women's World Cup trophy failed as they lost 1-0 to Spain in the final in Sydney.
Aiming to become the first senior England team since the men's team in 1966 to win the World Cup, the Lionesses lost. away from Spain, and a 29th-minute goal from captain Olga Carmona proves the difference.
England goalkeeper Mary Earps gave hope to her team with a second-half penalty save, but the European champions failed to equalize.< /p>

It doesn't matter if she makes a copy of the shirt, one day they build a statue for her. The penalty save celebration was joyous, reminiscent of Stuart Pearce at Euro 96.

It wasn't evening for an old-fashioned battering ram. Her substitution at half-time was heavy but correct as England needed to have a better hold on the ball.

Great cornerback who would have been happy to see Daly go at half-time. Enjoyed her one on one with Cannabis and was very defensive.
Irene Paredes — 8/10
A serious centre-back thumped Hemp in the first 30 seconds to show that the Spanish entertainers are not averse to an early cut. Seeing Rousseau at half-time was an early victory.
Laya Kodina — 7/10
After being almost nothing to do for 54 minutes, she indulged in an impressive game to make herself known to Hemp — a classic of the trauma simulation genre. Strong night, otherwise.
Olga Carmona — 9/10
The inspiring Spain skipper scored a stunning goal and excelled in taking on the responsibility of showing how the biggest games bring the most out of the best players. Difference.

A sustained influence in midfield as England suffered in the centre. Supported Spain with smart passes from close range. Never put your foot wrong.
Aitana Bonmati — 8/10
One of only three Spanish playmakers to monopolize possession in the first half. England could not approach her for a long period.
Jennifer Hermoso — 7/10
Need to work on how to put the ball in the penalty and even more on how to take the penalty. Her miss gave England hope.
Marion Kaldenti — 7/10
Constantly dueling with Walsh. England tried but failed to deprive herself of space and was eventually forced to abandon this policy and send more bodies ahead.
Alba Redondo — 6/10
Subbed out for Hernandez before the hour as Spain reacted to Sarina Wigman's changes, showing how things changed slightly in the second half.
Salma Paralluelo — 7/10
Selected to manage England's defence. Hit the post in the last minute of the first half, but had to be sent off with two yellow cards.
