Baltimore police at the scene of a shooting
At least five people were wounded in a shooting on a university campus in the eastern US city of Baltimore on Tuesday evening, police said.
The shooting happened on the Morgan State University campus around 9:25 p.m.
Richard Worley, Baltimore Police Commissioner, confirmed that the victims — four men and a woman between the ages of 18 and 22 — suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
University Police Chief Lance Hatcher said that the four wounded were college students.
The campus was placed on lockdown for several hours after an active shooter alert was announced earlier in the evening, but that alert has now been lifted, officials said.
No arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting.

The shooter may have been aiming from a dorm room window, according to news outlet WJZ who received a photograph of a broken window with a visible bullet hole.
The students had just left the “coronation.” An event where they were celebrating the election of two peers as «Mr. and Miss Morgan State» for homecoming week when the first shots were fired.
Panicking students posted on social media about hiding in their dorm rooms as police arrived in a helicopter and told everyone to take cover.
“We were completely confused about what was happening,” Amani said. student, describing the panic when students leaving the coronation ceremony saw police cars arrive.
“We went back and forth, figuring out which door we needed. go through. We ended up going through the back door and luckily we did because we could have been there (in the line of fire) when it happened.”
She added: “It was so scary.”

At the scene Tuesday night, police were blocking the south entrance to the campus near the residence hall buildings.
Ish Sargent, 20, who lives nearby, said she and her friends were outside when they heard a helicopter. However, they did not hear any shots.
Ms. Sargent said she is not usually concerned about gun violence in the area.
“But at school, it’s crazy,” she said. “People are shooting here.”
Security is “on guard” after previous shootings.
Another student, Regina, described a surreal scene of armed police and terrified students fleeing for their lives.
“People were stuck inside the building… hidden in a bunker. in the rooms,» she said.

Security was “on guard” for signs of violence during Homecoming week after previous shootings on campus, she said.
In Last October, a student was shot and killed during an unauthorized homecoming party near the campus student center.
In October 2021, a student was shot during a fight on campus during a homecoming celebration.
“Unfortunately, there was a massive crowd filming in the summer at a block party in Baltimore,” Regina added.
“It’s a shame that what was supposed to be about family and, you know, , love, turned into what it turned into. «
