Crossovers Tata Harrier and Safari on the Land Rover platform have undergone radical restyling

The exterior of the SUVs was designed in a new corporate style, which has already been tried on by the younger Nexon model. In addition, the list of available equipment has been expanded.

At the end of 2018, the Indian company Tata Motors introduced a crossover called Harrier (hello, Toyota!), and in 2021, the five-seater SUV was joined by a stretched three-row version, for which the name Safari was revived. The SUVs are built on the OMEGA Arc (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture) platform — this is how Tata designated a simplified version of the D8 “trolley” from Land Rover (the Indians own the British automaker). At home, Harrier and Safari did not achieve much success. In particular, at the end of last year, none of them was able to break into the TOP 30 bestsellers in the Indian market, while, for example, the Mahindra XUV700 crossover sold over 65,300 copies in 2022 (20th place in the ranking). Restyling is intended to invigorate demand: so far Tata has distributed only teasers, but there are enough of them to understand that there are many improvements.

Both crosses retained the two-story head optics, but the strips of running lights located on top are new, plus they are now united by an additional luminous line. The main headlight units have also become different — they are more compact and have a clearer shape. Note that the younger Tata Nexon SUV recently received similar lighting technology. Harrier and Safari have also had their bumpers and radiator grilles replaced. At the time of publication of the news, Tata revealed the rear of only the three-row SUV (pre-reform cars have different rear designs): it received new lights.

G The dimensions of the restyled cars have not yet been revealed. The length of the previous five-seater Tata Harrier is 4598 mm, the Safari figure is 4661 mm. The wheelbase of the crossovers is the same — 2741 mm.

Teasers show the interior of the Harrier. However, pre-reform SUVs have the same front part of the cabin, so the Safari probably has the same new things. Inside there is a different multimedia system with a larger touchscreen and a different steering wheel, contour lighting and a full-fledged virtual instrument panel have also been added.

Indian specialized media believe that at the first stage, crossovers will be offered with the same technology — this is the only 2.0 turbodiesel (170 hp, 350 Nm) from Stellantis, six-speed manual and automatic. Front-wheel drive only. Later, both crossovers can finally get a gasoline engine; there are also plans for electrified versions.

In India, orders for the restyled Tata Harrier and Safari will open on October 6. Most likely, on the same day the manufacturer will fully reveal the design of the models. A pre-reform five-seater SUV now costs from 1,519,900 rupees (about 1,813,000 rubles at the current exchange rate), a three-row one — from 1,584,900 rupees (approximately 1,890,000 rubles).
