This week, patent images of the new “five” station wagon appeared on the Internet, thanks to which it is possible to evaluate all the features of the appearance upcoming new product.
The fifth series station wagon first appeared in 1991; it was made on the basis of the third generation sedan with the factory index E34 (the first two generations had exclusively four doors). Since then, a five-door modification with the Touring prefix has been in every generation of the “five”, and the newest model,will not be an exceptionwhichpremiered in May of this year. Earlier, at the beginning of summer, we already made renderings of the station wagon, but now we can reproduce the appearance of the new product with maximum accuracy thanks to the patent images that have appeared.

As expected, up to the central pillars the station wagon will be identical to the fifth series sedan with the G60 index. In its style, they will make side glazing with an ascending sill line (a first for the model), while retaining some semblance of the brand’s signature “Hofmeister bend.” The most interesting element is the rear lights, which will have a different shape from the sedan, which will be more similar to other models of the brand — for example, the third and seventh series. The graphics of the LED lights with narrow horizontal stripes will be approximately the same as on the sedan. Another difference is the lower loading height of the trunk.

Like the sedan, the new Touring will be presented in both traditional versions with gasoline and diesel engines, and in a fully electric version called i5. The base engine for the “five” was a 2.0-liter “turbo-four” with a power of 190 hp. (310 Nm of torque). Moreover, all modifications are now equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission with an integrated 48-volt starter-generator, resulting in a total output of 208 hp. (330 Nm). There is also an option with a 3.0-liter inline turbo six producing 381 hp. (540 Nm) in the 540i xDrive version, and six-cylinder diesel engines will appear next year. At the end of last month, two versions of rechargeable hybridsPHEV debuted with a capacity of 299 and 489 hp. As for the electric modifications of the i5, there are currently two of them: the starting eDrive40 with a single electric motor on the rear axle (340 hp, 430 Nm) and the top-end dual-motor M60 xDrive with 601 hp. (820 Nm).
