The Bavarian company has completely declassified compact SUVs with a coupe-like body. Their “live” premiere will take place at the end of this month as part of the Japan Mobility exhibition in Tokyo.
The BMW X2 crossover was presented in the fall of 2017, now it’s time for the model to change generation: the Bavarians previously published several teasers of the next-generation X2, and now the new product has been completely declassified. By the way, the company decided to present the SUV in the “charged” version of the X2 M35i xDrive and in the all-electric version with its own name iX2.

The second generation BMW X2 received a coupe-like body and a sportier appearance than the current BMW X1 SUV. Compared to its predecessor, the new product has grown in size. So, its length is 4554 mm (194 mm more), width – 1845 mm (21 mm more), height – 1590 mm (64 mm more), and the distance between the axles has increased to 2692 mm (plus 22 mm).
The new X2 received the original branded “nostrils” of the radiator grille, and the BMW iX2 has a plug made in a similar shape, but with a different “closed” pattern. This element can be equipped with contour lighting. On the sides there are “slanting” LED head optics with paired corners of running lights.

At the bottom of the front bumper there is a large central and a pair of side air intakes. The “hot” version is distinguished by the corresponding nameplates of the BMW M division, black exterior mirror housings, and also has a differently designed lower part of the rear bumper with a diffuser and double round exhaust pipes on the sides. Note that due to the sloping roof, the aerodynamic drag coefficient of the iX2 is 0.25. Available wheel sizes vary from 17 to 21 inches.

The interior is similar to others current models of the Bavarian brand. Thus, on the front panel there is a large curved display that combines a 10.25-inch diagonal virtual instrument panel and a touchscreen of the latest version of the BMW iDrive infotainment system, the diagonal of this screen is 10.7 inches.
The company said that the “charged” version of the BMW X2 M35i xDrive will be available to customers from the moment sales of the new generation model start. As expected, the “filling” is the same as that of the similar “hot” version of the X1. That is, it is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, the power of which in European specification is 300 hp. (the version in the States and other markets has 317 hp). The all-wheel drive version of the X2 M35i takes 5.4 seconds to accelerate from zero to “hundreds.”

The BMW X2 sDrive20i has a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine under the hood, operating as part of a mild-hybrid power plant in tandem with a 48-volt starter-generator. The total output of the power plant is 170 hp. In turn, the BMW X2 sDrive18d is equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine of the same volume with a power of 150 hp. The pair is offered with a seven-speed Steptronic robot with dual clutch.

At the start of sales in Europe in March 2024, the all-electric cross-coupe will be available in one version – the BMW iX2 xDrive30. This option shares the technology with the current iX1 in the same version. This means that the new product is equipped with a dual-engine power plant (one electric motor on each axle), the total output of which is 313 hp. (494 Nm). This “green” SUV will need 5.6 seconds to accelerate from zero to “hundreds”, and its top speed is 180 km/h. The installation also includes a traction battery with a capacity of 64.8 kWh; the range on one charge varies from 417 to 449 km (according to the WLTP cycle). Later, another “plug-in” version will enter the market.
The production of coupe-like SUVs BMW X2 and iX2 will be established in the same place where the X1 and iX1 crossovers are currently produced: we are talking about the company’s enterprise in Regensburg, Germany (Germany). Prices will be announced closer to the start of sales.
