Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 moved into the 2024 model year: crossovers have become more powerful and longer-range

In addition, the refreshed German brand SUVs intended for the European market have increased their maximum speed — now 180 km/h, which 20 km/h more.

A fully electric SUV with a traditional body – the Volkswagen ID.4 – debuted in the fall of 2020, and the presentation of the ID.5 cross-coupe took place in the fall of 2021. Now the Germans have “pulled up” both models until the 2024 model year: the changes did not affect the appearance, but they affected the technology and affected the dynamic performance of “electric SUVs” intended for the old-world market.

The most significant changes have been made to the rear-wheel drive versions of the VW ID.4 and ID.5, which are equipped with an upgraded traction battery with a capacity of 77 kWh and a new electric motor on the rear axle. The company said that the output of such a motor is 286 hp, which is 82 hp more. more compared to its predecessor. The maximum torque has also increased — up to 545 Nm (235 Nm more).

U Such “single-engine” electric crossovers have also increased their range on a single charge. Thus, for the refreshed ID.4 Pro, the figure increased to 550 km (when calculated using the WLTP cycle), which is 17 km more than the rear-wheel drive version of the previous model year. In turn, the range of the updated cross-coupe ID.5 Pro has increased to 556 km (11 kilometers more).

The company also noted that the all-wheel drive Volkswagen ID.4 Pro 4Motion 2024 model year year, is equipped with a revised twin-engine power plant, the total output of which is the same 286 hp. (as well as the refreshed RWD version). Note that the power of this system was 21 hp. more than its predecessor.

All versions of the updated ID.4 Pro and ID.5 Pro versions now have a maximum speed of 180 km/h (previously all variants, except the top ones, it was equal to 160 km/h). Note that for “charged” modifications with the addition of GTX, the “maximum speed” has not changed and is still limited electronically at 180 km/h.

By the way, the “hot” crossovers of the 2024 model year can also boast of a more powerful system: the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX dual-engine unit produces 340 hp, which is 41 more than their predecessors. This made it possible to accelerate acceleration from zero to “hundreds” — regardless of body type, such SUVs require 5.4 seconds for this exercise (0.9 seconds faster than before).

Also on the list of differences between the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 of the 2024 model year is a redesigned infotainment system (with a 12.9-inch touchscreen), which, as the company explained, now has more intuitive controls. In addition, the cars received new generation software: the multimedia complex works faster, plus the list of functions has been expanded. The models also have a new multifunction steering wheel.

The company noted that prices for electric crossovers for the 2024 model year remained the same. According to the brand's official website, in its home market, Germany, the price of the ID.4 Pro starts at 42,635 euros, and for the basic version of the cross-coupe ID.5 Pro they ask for at least 51,270 euros.
