Citroen has declassified the new C3 for Europe. In the fourth generation, the popular subcompact model changed its form factor: now it is not a hatchback, but a cross-hatchback, based on the budget Smart Car platform, originally developed for emerging markets (Africa, India, South America). Due to its origin, the new C3 has a number of budget solutions, but the developers brightened them up with features unique to the European version of the model — for example, the basic equipment includes a comfortable Progressive Hydraulic Cushions suspension with hydraulic shock absorber bumpers.
So, as we expected, the new European Citroen C3 really turned out to be a relative of the global cross-hatchback of the same name with the factory index CC21, which has been produced since last year in India and Brazil. The Global Smart Car Platform is a simplified European CMP, but for Europe it was, as it were, inversely complicated, mainly in terms of active and passive safety.
The new Citroen C3, assembled in Brazil this summer, miserably failed the Latin NCAP crash tests, without earning a single star. The European C3 should be better in this regard: the basic You includes six airbags, AEB (automatic emergency braking), lane keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high-low beam switching, driver fatigue monitoring system , air conditioning, rear parking sensors, mount for a smartphone instead of a multimedia system, rear windows “on the oars”, 16-inch stamped wheels, LED headlights (taillights — with conventional incandescent lamps).

The second and current Max package includes a lane keeping system, a lane change assistant, luxury seats with adaptive foam, dual-zone climate control, a 10.25-inch multimedia screen, a rear view camera, power windows in all doors, shelf with wireless smartphone charging, heated mirrors, LED taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels, two-tone paint, roof rails.

The Citroen C3 will have very few options — all for the sake of reducing production costs; a sunroof, adaptive cruise control and a push-button engine start system are not available for the new product — even the electric version has a regular key that must be turned in the lock! But the French brand has worked carefully on the design: the “optics” of the European Citroen C3 are made in the spirit of last year’s conceptual transformable pickup truck Citroen Oli, and the interior has been radically redesigned compared to that of the Indian and Brazilian versions of the model.
< p>The front panel is made in the form of a shelf, the lower tier of which is a storage niche. The role of the instrument panel is performed by a projection screen, but the image is not displayed on the windshield, but on a narrow black stripe underneath it. The two-spoke steering wheel is flattened to block this same projection screen — a solution borrowed from Peugeot.

The overall length of the new European Citroen C3 is 4015 mm, width — 1813 mm, height — 1577 mm, ground clearance — 163 mm. Trunk volume — 310 l. The new C3 became the first production carrier of the Citroen emblem updated last year; previously we saw it only on the aforementioned Oli concept.
As part of today's presentation, the Citroen brand showed us only the electric e-C3, but, according to the French newspaper Largus, there will also be a petrol one, with a 1.2-liter PureTech “pipeline”, it will be combined with a manual gearbox or with a new e-DCS6 hybrid automatic transmission, developed jointly with Punch Powertrain, we talked about it in detail in a separate material. There will be no more diesel versions.

The European Citroen e-C3 is not as primitive as its Indian namesake, and has more attractive technical characteristics. The power of the electric motor installed on the front axle is 83 kW (113 hp), it allows the cross-hatch to accelerate to 100 km/h in 11 seconds, the maximum speed is limited to 135 km/h. The lithium iron phosphate battery for the European Citroen e-C3 is supplied by the Chinese company Svolt, its nominal capacity is 44 kWh, of which 42 kWh is available to consumers. The range on one charge is 320 km according to the WLTP cycle. The maximum charging power is 100 kW, it allows you to replenish the charge from 20 to 80% in 26 minutes.

In the You configuration, the electric Citroen e-C3 will cost 23,300 euros, in the Max configuration — 27 800 euros. In this segment, only the Chinese-assembled Dacia Spring is cheaper, and even then not by much: in Germany, for example, the Spring now costs from 22,750 euros. The starting price of the new petrol C3 will be below 20,000 euros. In addition, in 2025, an even cheaper entry-level version of the Citroen e-C3 will enter the market with a range of 200 km on a single charge and a price of 19,990 euros.
A new European Citroen is being produced The C3 will be in the same place as its predecessor, at the Stellantis plant in the Slovak city of Trnava. The start of accepting orders is scheduled for the end of December, deliveries of ordered vehicles to customers will begin in the second quarter of 2024.
