Ferrari has declassified another project from the exclusive One-Off program: the mid-engine SP-8 roadster was made by order of a wealthy client from Taiwan and costs a fortune.
The One-Off program is addressed to Ferrari's most loyal and wealthy customers, and dozens of unique models have already been produced under this program, including the KC23, SP51, SP48 Unica, BR20 and P80/C. The index for each piece model is selected individually: the newest roadster, made on the basis of the serial F8 Spider, was called SP-8, where the number 8 on one side indicates the number of engine cylinders, and on the other is a symbol of good luck and prosperity in Chinese culture.
The technical filling of the Ferrari SP-8 is the same as that of the Ferrari F8 Spider: a 3.9-liter twin-turbo eight installed behind the two-seater cockpit produces a maximum of 720 hp. and 770 Nm, gearbox — 7-speed automatic DCT type (with two clutches), all power is transmitted to the rear wheels, acceleration to 100 km/h takes 2.9 seconds. The main value of the Ferrari SP-8 is its unique body, which took several months to develop and manufacture.
The shape of the Ferrari SP-8 is a skillful flow of two volumes of silver and black colors into each other; the black volume (front, side skirts, belt line, rear bumper) is made of unpainted varnished carbon fiber. Almost all exterior trim parts are designed from scratch, with few borrowings — these are the mirrors from the original F8 Spider and the taillights from the Roma model, and even those received new lenses. The windshield and exhaust pipes are inspired by the Ferrari 296 GTB, but still have a unique shape.
The SP-8 does not have a roof at all, so Ferrari engineers had to carefully work on the aerodynamics to ensure that the noise level in the cabin at high speeds was acceptable. At the same time, the absence of a roof made it possible to completely redesign the rear of the sports car and provide it with separate air intakes for the engine and intercoolers.
Another interesting form-building element is the aluminum ventilation grilles made on a 3D printer on the front, rear and in front of the hood; they are reminiscent of the legendary “cheese graters” from the sides of Ferrari from the 80s. Unique openwork wheels, designed specifically for this model, refer to the legendary F40 model and classic Ferrari sports prototypes.
The interior of the Ferrari SP-8 is generally the same as the F8 Spider, but it is, of course, completely re-upholstered, with dark blue Alcantara with laser engraving dominating the trim. The design of the central tunnel has been changed compared to the original model, it has become wider, and the standard push-button selector for the F8 Spider transmission modes has been replaced by a more fashionable slide shifter from the Ferrari SF90 Stradale hybrid supercar.
How much did the Ferrari SP cost? -8 to a customer from Taiwan, the Scuderia press service does not inform — most likely, we are talking about a seven-figure sum in euros, and in any case it will pay for itself, since the cost of such unique cars only grows over time. You can see the Ferrari SP-8 live at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello (Italy) from November 16, 2023 to March 2024.
