It seems that just recently Artemi Panarin made his NHL debut at the highest level, and meanwhile Khlebushek is spending his ninth season in the main hockey league of the world. Over the years, the star Russian forward, who was never selected in the draft, managed to change three clubs. And in each he was one of the brightest stars: in the Chicago Blackhawks, his team-up with Patrick Kane became, if not a cult, then something like that for a long time; in the Columbus Blue Jackets, the club’s fans almost prayed that the Russian would remain on the team, and therefore were upset and even offended by Artemy after his refusal to sign a new contract with the “uniforms”; in the New York Rangers, he became the main character and leader who is expected to chase the Stanley Cup.
And it’s surprising that until now Panarin, with his crazy performance, has never been able to reach the symbolic mark of one hundred points in a season. Each time the Russian forward stopped a few steps away from this achievement. But there was no doubt that Artemy would succeed. Today Khlebushek confirmed that faith in his abilities was not taken out of thin air.
Philadelphia, under the leadership of John Tortorella, with whom Panarin worked in Columbus, even with serious personnel difficulties, somehow manages to remain in the playoff zone and get on the nerves of all clubs in the league. The match was also a test for the Rangers. Until the end of the second period, they were flying with a score of 0:2, and then the leader of the Blueshirts took control of the comeback mission. During the power play, Artemy appreciated the shooting potential of Mika Zibanejad, and while he had enough space to shoot, he passed the ball to him on the free ice.
Thanks to this transfer, Panarin finally reached the coveted “100” and became the eighth Russian hockey player in history who managed to score at least 100 points in one NHL regular season. Before Artemy, Alexander Ovechkin and Nikita Kucherov (both four times, a record), Evgeny Malkin (three times), Alexander Mogilny, Pavel Bure, Sergey Fedorov (all two times) and Kirill Kaprizov (once) achieved this before.< br>
Panarin also became the seventh player in Rangers history to score 100 points in an NHL regular season, and the first in 18 years since Jaromir Jagr reached the final mark of 123 points in the 2005-06 season. In the entire history of the New York club, Panarin (2023/24 season), Jagr (2005/06), as well as Jean Ratel (1971/72), Mark Messier (1991/92), managed to score 100 points in one championship draw. Vic Hadfield (1971/72), Mike Rogers (1981/82) and Brian Leach (1991/92). It is noteworthy that this list does not even include Wayne Gretzky. The maximum that the great Canadian achieved in the Rangers camp was 97 points in the 1996/97 season.
Panarin's assist eventually launched a process that was incredible in its plot. In the third period, both teams staged a scoring shootout, during which the Rangers took the lead and the Flyers equalized the score over and over again. They had to sort things out in overtime, where Adam Fox, with the participation of the same Panarin, who scored an assist hat-trick, closed the shop and brought the Blue Shirts victory. The team of Peter Laviolette, who scored his 800th victory in his coaching career in the NHL, was the first to score 100 this season and qualify for the playoffs.
