Lanzante Porsche 911 TAG Championship: carbon restomod with a Formula 1 engine

The British company Lanzante has announced a technically sophisticated TAG Championship restomod based on the 930 generation Porsche 911 Turbo from the mid-1970s. The project is inspired by the McLaren MP4/2 formula car, from which the high-revving 1.5-liter V6 biturbo engine is borrowed.

Lanzante, founded half a century ago by Paul Lasante, designs and builds racing cars, raced modified McLaren F1s and Porsche 911s in the 1990s, and now uses its wealth of experience to build small-scale restomods based on the 930-generation Porsche 911 Turbo. The TAG Championship project announced today will be the coolest and most powerful in a series of such restomods, it will be released in an edition of only 3 copies, the first will be shown at the next Goodwood Festival of Speed, which will be held from July 11 to 14.

The main feature of Lanzante restomods — 1.5-liter TAG-Porsche TTE P01 engine, which was installed on the McLaren MP4/2 car, which won the Formula 1 championship titles in 1984, 1985 and 1986. The 1984 title belongs to Niki Lauda, ​​the 1985 and 1986 titles to Alain Prost.

The formula engine has been adapted for the road car by specialists from Cosworth, with all the changes approved by McLaren: new pistons, connecting rods, valves and valve springs have been installed, the cylinder heads and cooling system have been modernized, and lighter titanium turbochargers have been used. The maximum engine power is 625 hp, and it can spin up to 10,250 rpm. The gearbox is a modernized 6-speed manual from the 993 generation Porsche 911, which transfers all the power to the rear wheels. The maximum speed of the restomod is 322 km/h.

The original body of the Porsche 911 Turbo has been stripped down to its core and reinforced, new exterior panels are made of carbon fiber, and the red and white paint job is deliberately styled to resemble Alain Prost's 1985 helmet. Thanks to new lightweight components and the elimination of all unnecessary components, the Lanzante Porsche 911 TAG Championship weighs only 920 kg — 430 kg less than the donor sports car. The interior has not yet been revealed, we only know that it will have a tubular roll cage, lightweight climate control, power windows on the oars, Recaro buckets with 6-point seat belts and a Personal steering wheel, reminiscent of the steering wheel in the McLaren MP4/2.

The Lanzante Porsche 911 TAG Championship chassis, of course, has been comprehensively modernized and carefully tuned, new powerful carbon fiber tires have been installed. ceramic brake discs with a diameter of 322 mm. The 18-inch Dymag wheels made of carbon fiber and magnesium follow the design of the McLaren MP4/2 wheels and are shod with modern Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires in sizes 235/40 R 18 at the front and 275/35 R 18 at the rear.
