The most popular brand on the Russian market remains the domestic Lada, the leader among foreign brands is also the same — Haval.
The Autostat agency has published a new report on sales of new passenger cars in the Russian Federation. Let us remind you that the statistics include both official brands and models presented on our market, as well as cars imported under the parallel import scheme. According to Autostat data, in May of this year, 127,178 new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 76.2% morethan in May 2023. However, when compared with April 2024, sales volumes decreased by 7% (137,047 units were sold in April). Moreover, the April result was also 6.5% worse than in March of this year.
In the May TOP 10 brands, almost all showed impressive “pluses” (not counting, of course, newcomers). The Russian Lada remains the leader, and it leads by a huge margin: according to analysts, 40,065 units were sold.

The most popular foreign brand was again Haval (14,015 units), followed by Chery (13,020 units), Geely (10,271 units) and Changan (9,978 units). Thus, compared to April 2024, the top five brands have not changed. But there are changes in the second half of the list: in particular, the Belarusian Belgee rose one position (now eighth place), and Jaecoo closed the top ten in May (Tank dropped out of the list).

The Lada Granta (18,543 units) again became the best seller of the Russian car market, while the VAZ budget car showed the lowest sales growth. Lada Vesta (13,626 units) was in second place: on the contrary, it had the largest increase, but this is explained by the fact that full sales resumed only a year ago. Third place goes to the Haval Jolion crossover (6354 units). That is, the top three are the same as in April 2024.

If we compare with the April model rating, then in May Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max and Chery Tiggo 4 Pro improved their positions — they surpassed the VAZ SUVs Lada Niva Travel and Lada Niva Legend. In addition, the latest list includes the Belgee X50, Changan CS55 Plus and Omoda C5 (the April TOP 10 included the Geely Monjaro and Haval M6).

In just five months of 2024, according to Avtostat statistics, 594,517 new passenger cars were sold in Russia — this is 86.4% more than in January-May 2023.
