Outside its native China, the updated three-row all-terrain vehicle has so far only been announced with a diesel engine. The LDV model will go on sale before the end of the year.
In China, this frame SUV with an aggressive appearance debuted back in 2022. There it is available under the Maxus brand and is considered a separate model with the Territory name, although in fact it is a Maxus D90 after a deep restyling. The original D90 is not a local exclusive — it is also exported, and in some markets the all-terrain vehicle is sold under the LDV brand. By the way, Maxus just descended from the once British company LDV, which at one time was owned by our GAZ (today Maxus and LDV belong to the SAIC concern). So, now the transformed export LDV D90 has been announced: the model was shown in South Africa. To be fair, we note that this African country will not become the debut foreign market for the restyled SUV — it has already reached Saudi Arabia. However, the model there is also Maxus, as in China.

Let us remind you that the D90 is built on the basis of the Maxus T60 pickup truck (aka T90 in its homeland), which is also sold outside China under the LDV brand. The truck was restyled even earlier, and it was in its style that the passenger SUV was updated. In particular, the SUV inherited the two-story head optics from the pickup truck: LED running lights are located on top, and vertical headlight blocks are located below them. At the same time, the Maxus/LDV D90 has an original radiator grille, bumpers and taillights. Of course, the LDV model has its own emblems and nameplates. The dimensions of SUVs intended for different markets are the same: length – 5046 mm, wheelbase – 2950 mm.

Inside, the Maxus and LDV SUVs also repeat each other (of course, with the exception of the steering wheel location). A large tablet of the multimedia system rises above the front panel, and a row of physical keys flaunts under the central air deflectors. In South Africa, the LDV D90 will be offered in two trim levels – Elite and Flagship. The African all-terrain vehicle is seven-seater by default. The list of standard equipment includes leather upholstery, climate control, the aforementioned touchscreen, six airbags, a standard video recorder, adaptive cruise control, auto braking and lane keeping systems. LDV D90 Flagship also includes heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, 20-inch wheels instead of 18-inch ones and all-round cameras.

In South Africa, the SUV will be available with a 2.0 biturbo diesel engine producing 218 hp. (500 Nm), a classic eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF and all-wheel drive. In China, the Maxus D90 with a similar engine also has a 48-volt starter-generator, but the “add-on” is not announced for the LDV model. And in China you can choose an SUV with a 2.0 petrol turbo engine (261 hp).

In South Africa, deliveries of the new LDV D90 to customers are promised to begin in the fourth quarter, prices have not yet been announced. Such an all-terrain vehicle LDV should also reach Australia and neighboring New Zealand.
Meanwhile, in India the Maxus/LDV D90 has a sibling under the MG brand — Gloster (the MG brand is also owned by SAIC) . The Indian SUV is also preparing for restyling, however, judging by spy photos, the externally modernized Gloster will differ from the D90.
