UK elections today: Tories will dismantle Labor manifesto in Sunak's absence

The Conservatives will try to dismantle Labour's manifesto at a press conference in central London on Friday morning amid Rishi Sunak's continued absence from the general election campaign.

Laura Trott, the chief secretary to the Treasury, will outline the Tories' response to Sir Keir Starmer's plans as both parties battle for victory ahead of July 4.

Mr Sunak remains out of the country as he attends the second day of the G7 summit in Italy, with the prime minister expected to return to campaigning on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Sir Keir will take part in a BBC general election interview tonight and will be questioned by host Nick Robinson from 7.30pm.
