Senator Tsekov responded to Zelensky’s words about negotiations through intermediaries

Senator from Crimea, member of the International Committee of the Federation Council Sergei Tsekov commented on the words of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who voiced the form of possible negotiations with Russia through intermediaries.
Earlier, Zelensky, during a conversation with Philadelphia Enquirer columnist Trudy Rubin, answered the question of whether direct negotiations with Russia are possible. He said that they could begin after representatives of the international community prepare a settlement plan and agree on it with Kiev. After this, coordination of this plan with Russia will begin. At the same time, Zelensky said that the scheme that was used when concluding a grain deal could be used, when Russia and Ukraine entered into an agreement not with each other, but with Turkey and the UN as intermediaries.
«It is obvious that he is afraid of direct negotiations with Vladimir Putin,” Tsekov said in an interview with News.ru, adding that Zelensky hopes to receive some kind of support from intermediary countries.
The Russian politician called this decision of the Ukrainian leader “absolutely idiotic” . He noted that Zelensky was convinced that Ukraine would win, but the reality turned out to be different and therefore they came up with a certain model of negotiations through intermediaries.
“For the conflict to end, Ukraine must negotiate with Russia without the intervention of other countries,” — said the senator. He also called it a question whether Russia would want to negotiate with Zelensky, since it does not consider him a legitimate president.
He once again emphasized that the conversation needs to be held without intermediaries, but some country can provide a platform for negotiations , but it must be an “absolutely neutral country” that did not support the current Ukrainian government.
