NORBIT, Digital Leader, K2Tech Data Lab, Kept and Arenadata shared the results of a joint study of the Russian BI solutions market. According to the analysis, from 2021 to the first quarter of 2024, the share of implementations of foreign systems decreased from 90% to 23%, while Russian ones increased from 9% to 68%.
Companies in the enterprise segment, which continued to use Western products by inertia or resorted to combined solutions, are actively turning to Russian BI systems. Customers note that the departure of foreign vendors resulted in difficulties with acquiring or renewing a license, updating and maintaining their solutions, as well as a shortage of specialists for modification, integration and technical support.
In 42% of projects, the company gave preference to Russian vendors: Visiology, Foresight, Luxms BI, Loginom, 1C: Analytics, Goodt Insight. Less often they decided to use the Asian FineBI platform. As an alternative, some companies build parts of open source products in-house, such as Apache Superset.
Artem Ivakin, director of business development at NORBIT: “There are no obvious leaders among Russian BI solutions. However, domestic businesses will need to decide on the most suitable product, taking into account the tasks, requirements and strategy for the future. Our joint research will help to do this consciously.”
The survey showed that the most important factors when choosing a solution are the cost of licenses and implementation, performance, and functionality. Among companies with 8,000–15,000 employees, large-scale implementations of systems for 1,000 users or more are in demand by 24%, while 48% limit installations to up to 200 licenses. 64% of companies provide access to operational analytics to all employees. For a third, the target user of BI systems is senior management, which monitors business indicators in real time.

As practice shows not only in the BI segment, but also in the field of data products, customers understand that continued use of foreign solutions is a path that inevitably leads to stagnation.»
Data security remains an important factor. To avoid risks, 80% of companies deploy BI systems in their internal infrastructure. However, some organizations are ready to consider cloud services if a low price is offered and a domestic platform is used.

Daria Maksimova, director of technology practice Kept: “Today we are seeing dynamic development of BI products in Russia. Most vendors pay close attention to feedback from customers. Therefore, we can hope that the current lack of functionality of some solutions will be corrected soon.»
