MOSCOW, July 1The special prize “Honor and Dignity” of the Nika Prize was posthumously awarded to the president of the Satire Theater, People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Shirvindt, announced actor Leonid Yarmolnik.
“»Of course, I owe my birth and life to my dad and mom, but for 40 years I received instructions on how to use this life and this profession from my beloved teacher. It was he who taught me to be both an artist and a person — Alexander Shirvindt,” said Yarmolnik, announcing the winner of the special prize.
Shirvindt was born on July 19, 1934 in Moscow. After graduating from the Shchukin Theater School in 1956, he was accepted into the troupe of the Theater. Lenin Komsomol (now Lenkom Mark Zakharov). Shirvindt has served at the Satire Theater since 1970, from 2000 to 2021 he was the artistic director of the theater, and in 2021 he became its president.
In addition, the actor taught at the Shchukin Theater Institute.
Shirvindt is widely known for his roles in films, including such films as “The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!”, “Three in a Boat, Not Counting the Dog,” “Circus Princess” and others.
The artist died on March 15 at the age of 89.
National Cinematography Award «Nika» was established in 1987 by the secretariat of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR. The winners are determined by secret ballot of members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and receive a prize-figurine of the winged ancient Greek goddess Nike.
