In a week and a half since the presentation, the new Renault SUV has collected more than 7,000 applications. The start of “live” sales is scheduled for autumn.
The Renault Grand Koleos crossover is the first model created within the framework of the partnership between Renault and the Chinese holding Geely Auto, announced several years ago. The SUV is built on the basis of the Geely Xingyue L, also known as Monjaro. The world premiere of the SUV with the Renault diamond pattern took place on June 27 of this year in Korea at the Busan International Mobility Show (BIMS), because it is in this country that its production will be established. And it is Korea that will become the debut and main market for the new product. Moreover, there are high hopes for Grand Koleos, since the local Renault Korea plant is currently going through difficult times. By the way, the company turned into Renault Korea in 2022 — previously it was called Renault Samsung. And in 2024, the French bosses finally abandoned the use of the Samsung brand (the brand has not had anything in common with the home appliance manufacturer of the same name for a long time). Meanwhile, it turned out that the presentation of a model so important for the Korean division was accompanied by a scandal.

According to local specialized media, after the premiere of the Grand Koleos, a video appeared on one of the corporate YouTube channels of Renault Korea in which an employee of either the company or the advertising agency tasked with promoting the model demonstrated a certain gesture symbolizing the humiliation of men. Moreover, according to Korean media, this gesture appeared in more than one video. Renault Korea then blocked access to the controversial content and issued an apology. But the negative reaction of some users has not gone away — in particular, relevant comments can still be found on the Internet.
However, today, July 8, Renault Korea issued a press release in which it boasted of the first successes of a crossover based on the “Chinese”. It is reported that from the moment of the presentation to July 7 inclusive, 7,135 preliminary applications for Renault Grand Koleos were collected — and this despite the fact that there is no price list yet, it will be published later this month. The company also conducted its own survey among visitors to the BIMS exhibition: they noted the model's design, spacious interior and separate passenger multimedia screen on the front panel.

As for the appearance, Grand’s is original. The Renault SUV received its own radiator grille and bumpers, a different hood and outer door panels, plus the windows in the rear roof pillars and lights were redesigned. The length of the Grand Koleos is 4780 mm versus 4770 mm for the Russian Geely Monjaro, the wheelbase is 2820 mm instead of 2845 mm. Inside, the Renault crossover almost literally repeated the Geely model.
Renault Grand Koleos will be offered to Koreans as soon as with internal combustion engines and as a hybrid. The technology was transferred from the Gili SUV (but in the Russian Federation, for example, there is no hybrid version), although with its own settings. Under the hood of the “traditional” SUV there is a 2.0 petrol turbo-four with a power of 211 hp. (in China — 218 or 238 hp): the front-wheel drive Grand has a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches, the all-wheel drive SUV gets a classic eight-speed automatic. The hybrid Grand Koleos comes only with front-wheel drive; the installation of such a crossover includes a 1.5 turbo engine, the total output is 245 hp.
“Live” sales of the new Renault crossover will start in Korea in the fall. It is quite possible that the Korean-made Grand Koleos will subsequently be exported.
