Medals and prizes from the Academy for 2023 were awarded to 84 young scientists and university students
Search for new physics, development of viruses for tumor therapy and analysis of the political views of feminists… 62 works on 21 areas were noted by the RAS expert council as the best in 2023.

RAS medals were awarded to 49 young scientists and 35 students out of 1,483 applicants. As stated in the Resolution of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences dated June 25, academicians were awarded “works that contribute to the development of scientific knowledge and are distinguished by originality in the formulation and solution of problems.”
For example, in the field of mathematics for “High-precision bicompact schemes for equations of mathematical physics” The medal was awarded to Mikhail Bragin from the Institute of Applied Mathematics. M. V. Keldysh RAS. This is how “MK” briefly explained the essence of his work is the laureate himself:
– I develop computational methods that can be used to solve problems in aerodynamics and hydrodynamics on computers. These and many other physical problems in their mathematical formulation are complex differential equations. Computers cannot work with such continuous equations, and therefore a conversion to discrete, algebraic equations is necessary. In my work, I proposed a more advanced transformation that allows us to obtain solutions several times faster and more accurately than with similar popular methods.
In the section of general physics and astronomy, members of the expert commission highlighted the work of the scientific team from the Samara National Research University. . Academician S.P. Korolev, dedicated to elements for controlling light.
— Our work “Axicon-like optical elements for the formation and detection of laser radiation” is to create optical elements for controlling light, laser radiation, – explains one of the authors Dmitry Savelyev. – It is known that laser beams have different properties. For example, there is a so-called optical trap, or optical bottle – an area surrounded on all sides by light. It can be used to manipulate particles. The special optical elements offered by our group can also be used to achieve sharp focusing of laser radiation – obtaining a very small focal spot, which can be used, for example, for welding or compact recording of information on disks or other applications. Controlling light and its properties is also important for work on an optical computer, which may well become the next milestone in the development of computing technology. Those elements that we study allow us to form the required light distribution — an optical trap, a sharply focused beam, a light needle — a segment of light on the optical axis with a uniform distribution.
Among the laureate scientists There were also nuclear physicists from the Institute of Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences for the search for new physics with the help of accelerator experiments and cosmological observations, and other talented researchers.
In the group of students, among many, master's degree students from MIPT and a fifth-year biologist from Moscow State University distinguished themselves. them. Lomonosov – for work in the field of tumor treatment, as well as a student at Tomsk State University who studied “The Political Agenda of Russian-Speaking Feminist Online Communities in 2022.” At work she noted that this agenda “is of high scientific significance.”
Each winner receives a medal and laureate diploma, a badge and a cash prize. For young scientists it is 100 thousand rubles, for students – 50 thousand rubles.
