Terrible figures for Ukraine's losses since the beginning of the Northern Military District have been announced: millions disappeared without a trace

The dilemma of the extinction of a nation

The phrase “until the last Ukrainian” has become so worn out that its meaning has begun to fade in the public consciousness, it does not sound frightening. But the meaning and content haven’t gone anywhere. It would be useful to remind about this, especially since the other day figures and forecasts for the population of Ukraine were published. More precisely, extinction numbers.

The Dilemma of the Extinction of a Nation

The UN released the World Population Prospects 2024 report. With the overall and very rapid growth of the world population (by 2084 the planet's population will reach its maximum in the 21st century — 10.3 billion people, and by 2100 it will decrease by one hundred million), Ukraine is facing a demographic catastrophe. According to UN demographers, the population of Ukraine will decrease to 15.3 million people by 2100. That's about the number of people in Moscow alone right now.

Of course, at such time periods no one canceled the argument about the emir and the donkey. But let's look at the numbers from a couple of past years. The Ukrainian State Statistics Service reported that as of January 2014, the population of Ukraine was 45.2 million people. At the beginning of 2022, 41 million people lived in Ukraine. According to estimates by the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, in May 2023 the population was 29 million people. 12 million disappeared in a year. This is despite the fact that the UN recorded a little more than 6.5 million Ukrainian refugees in the world as of June of this year. And where did another 5-6 million out of 12 go? By the way, according to a survey by the Office of the UN High Commissioner, only 60% of refugees plan to return to Ukraine in the future.

What does the phrase “until the last Ukrainian” have to do with it? Moreover, the current Kiev regime, which some time ago realized that young people — the future of the country — should not be sent into the trenches, has found itself faced with a dilemma.

If you remember, in early June, Putin said that Kyiv would absolutely lower the age of mobilization, because this is the US condition for providing military assistance. The age has already been reduced from 27 to 25 years. Then it will decrease further until the age of 18. 17-year-old Ukrainians who study or live abroad must come to their homeland and register with the TCC, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced this, noting that this cannot be done remotely.

“What Ukraine needs to do is mobilize human resources. This is a war fought by 40-year-olds. No other war in history has been fought by 40-year-olds… You need to recruit 18-year-olds, you need to recruit 20-year-olds and you need to recruit 21-year-olds,” said Ivo Daalder, former US permanent representative to NATO, in an interview with Euronews . “There is no doubt that this is part of the solution. You need more people on the front line,” he added.

In order to obtain weapons to continue the war with Russia, the Kiev regime must show its owners that there will be someone to fight with these weapons, demonstrate determination to continue fighting — send young people to the front. The continuation of the war is the only guarantee of maintaining the current regime in power.

The dilemma, therefore, if it is slightly reformulated, sounds like this: either the Kiev regime remains in power, or Ukraine faces inevitable extinction. You can’t doubt for a second what Zelensky will choose.

The West is generally indifferent to Ukrainians. While they exist, they are used as cannon fodder. If they run out, that’s fine. In Russia, we feel sorry for ordinary Ukrainians, but Russia needs good neighbors, and since this was not achieved in a good way, they were not understood in a good way, we have to explain it in a bad way (and, to be honest, explain it quite gently, not in the Israeli way, for example, style).

So the phrase “until the last Ukrainian” should sound scary to the Ukrainians themselves. Who is really putting it into practice in Ukraine, or rather into death, they are already beginning to realize (judging at least from the anti-war speeches during the week of popular Ukrainian millionaire bloggers, which was impossible to imagine just recently).
