Recently, a German company tested prototypes of a new crossover, which is considered the future new generation of the X5 model. Thanks to spy photos, we have the opportunity to get a first idea of what he will look like.
The BMW X5 traces its history back to 1999, when the first generation of the model with the factory index E53 was presented, which also became the brand's first serial crossover. Today, the fourth generation of the SUV is already on the assembly line, the premiere of which took place in 2018. At the beginning of last year, the X5 received a restyling, and now the Bavarians are testing samples of a completely new generation.

Judging by the spy photos, the crossover will generally retain familiar proportions with a long hood, long wheelbase and a fairly massive rear overhang. At the same time, the design here is completely different: it is made in the style of the Neue Klasse concepts. The outlines of the radiator grille (or its imitation in the case of the electric version of the iX5), visually combined with the headlights, are already visible. From the side, the absence of traditional door handles is striking; on prototypes they are located in the area of the window sill line — similar ones have already been demonstrated on the Vision Neue Klasse X concept, and similar handles can be seen on the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric crossover. As for the rear, something similar to the above-mentioned concept is expected here, namely, a pair of horizontally elongated lights, between which is the brand logo in a new translucent style. For the first time for a model, the license plate niche is located on the rear bumper directly under the trunk lid.

The new BMW X5 will be built on the Neue Klasse architecture, and in both versions — both with traditional internal combustion engines, as well as fully electric. This is its difference from the younger X3 model, of which only the electric version will receive this new platform (and original design). The premiere of the new X5 is expected in 2026.

Meanwhile, BMW recently celebrated its 25th anniversary X5 model with a special Silver Anniversary version with an emphasis on both off-road and sports.
