Will the Kremlin take tough measures after a daring terrorist attack?
The events in the Kursk region continue to stir up the entire country for the fourth day in a row. Our Armed Forces are smoking out Ukrainian militants from some areas, while the enemy is digging in in other places. The Ministry of Emergency Situations has classified the situation as a federal emergency. There is no point in expecting all this to end in a day or two, says Alexander Mikhailov, head of the Bureau of Military-Political Analysis.

– What is very important to pay attention to now is that losses on the Ukrainian side have increased . If in the first 24 hours after the Ukrainian Armed Forces illegally crossed our state border we were talking about approximately 100 dead and more than 200 wounded, now we are talking about 945 dead Ukrainian soldiers. More than a hundred armored vehicles were destroyed on the Ukrainian side and a whole list of weapons that were turned into scrap metal.
– The Ministry of Emergency Situations has a certain terminology. This indicates very large-scale catastrophic consequences for the livelihoods of more than a thousand people. There's a whole list there. The main thing is that all federal departments got involved. Now this is the task of not only the border service of the FSB and the Ministry of Defense, but also the Russian Guard is now sending its units, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is working on the ground, the Ministry of Emergency Situations is working, since there is a lot of work now for firefighters and rescuers.
– It is necessary to understand that several thousand servicemen and several hundred units of military equipment will not stop the advance of the Russian group. This is a military-political action. In my opinion, the last serious blitzkrieg of Zelensky's office. They are carrying out their preparation, which they held back for this period, when they essentially have no other opportunities to advance on the territory of the SVO zone. They have no success there. And in recent weeks, our troops have been liberating populated areas almost every day. These losses cannot be hidden from the West. It was necessary to urgently organize a victory, and it was organized. Another thing is that these people who were thrown into a breakthrough, an attempt at invasion — they were thrown to their death. Now they are digging trenches there, but this will only last for a few days.
– Unless, of course, the Ukrainian Armed Forces use the tactics of international terrorists: they capture civilians and use them as human shields. Then we will have to engage in surgical counter-terrorism work. Here, you can’t go on the offensive with a large military attack, sweeping everything away with FABs. After all, several settlements with their residents are essentially under temporary occupation by the Kyiv regime.
— This is already a federal emergency. Why martial law? It is not introduced on the territory of two districts. This is an emergency situation. Now we hear calls to strike with tactical nuclear weapons. This is the wrong approach. We use nuclear weapons only in the event of a threat to destroy the Russian Federation. There is no threat to destroy the Russian Federation here. Yes, this is a large-scale terrorist attack, very daring. Very well planned. Both aerial and satellite reconnaissance of the area were carried out, the most convenient areas for invasion were identified. But to introduce martial law… We have not introduced it since February 24, 2022. What is the logic in introducing it now? In fact, in our SVO zone, success after success, you have to understand this.
– The enemy has completely diverted all the world media to the Kursk region. And in objective reality, our offensive continues. There have been attempts in the Kherson region for the enemy to gain a foothold on the spit, but they have been largely unsuccessful.
– I was in the Sudzhansky district. There are Orthodox monasteries there. There are no military facilities there, no ammunition storage area. There are no large divisions stationed there. There is only the border with Ukraine. But there are only peaceful rural areas there: villages, district centers – everything as it should be in the Black Earth Region. So the enemy came in, dispersed among these huts, ravines, copses, surrounded themselves with mines. They have Buks operating there.
– You can’t just fly up to them. And why advance in such a way as to lose our aviation, our best trained specialists?
– Now the task is to preserve the lives of the Kursk residents who fell under occupation as much as possible. And the second point – taking advantage of this opportunity, while the enemy is concentrating a significant number of its units in this direction, strike in other directions, advance further, do not stop. Do not catch your breath, but move on. And the Kursk segment should be dealt with by the security agencies, the army and the specialists who have been pulled in there. There are many ways to solve the problems. A more or less simple one is to shower everything with air bombs and missiles and simply turn everything into dust. But this would simply destroy two regional centers of Russia. This is absolutely wrong. What our group is doing now is the right decision. Objects in the Sumy region are being hit so that ammunition and fuel and lubricants are not delivered. We are breaking the enemy's logistics. Military work is underway.
